depending on your usage.
my fren used 2xBP511 for his G2 per day during one of his oversea trip. actually the lcd of digital cam drains the batt.
for me, i use 2xBP511 for my dslr and 1 as spare (total is 3)

I just came back from a 1 month trip, so let me say from experience that it is IDEAL if you have a total of 3 batteries. Now 2 batteries should be enough, but on some days when I am especially trigger happy, or when I use the movie modes, the batteries run out pretty quickly, and I drain the 2nd battery by the end of the day. On an average day, I'll use 1.5 batteries ( ie, I'll exhaust 1 batt and drain the 2nd one about halfway). So the 3rd battery is really the spare, while the other 2 will be used in the course of the day.

Sometimes, you don't have the chance to charge your flat batteries ( eg, when you are flying or taking an overnight train ), and you will end up at your destination with 2 flat batteries ( or 1 flat and 1 partially used) ! So the 3rd spare will tide you over so that you can at least still shoot quite a lot of photos.

BTW, I was using an A1, which has a similar battery as the G3/300D/10D, except that it is rated at 1500MAh. And the weather was pretty cold ( in Europe ), so that might have shorten the life of the batteries.

In perspective, spending $30 for an extra Canon battery is small price to pay as insurance against running out of juice at an inopportune moment.

Don't know about the A1, but since the 300D doesn't use the LCD screen for framing a shot, it's a lot easier on the battery consumption. Nevertheless, you can't have too many batteries. I've got 3 total just in case. Don't say battery go flat lah. What if you short one out, or it drops through some drain grille somewhere. Don't laugh man...shite happens when you least expect it.

dunno leh.......
i also wondering if using 2 types of 3rd party batt at the same time (in batt pack) will cause any electrical failure to 10D, say 1300mAH and 1100mAH.
