the flipper is not meant to be popped up in normal use, rather popped up when you want to review images or use live view.

Do you not find the light sensor for the adjustment of the LCD not good enough? The outer screen that you can touch is actually the LCD's protective screen, which is replacable.

I found it to be more troublesome then useful if you use the camera as most people do. Unless of course you are shooting under Liveview and using a tripod under bright sunlight all the time, then this gadget might be useful.
But, if you use the viewfinder to take photo like most people. The opening and closing oof the shade will drive you nuts.
