    If you align your camera across the axis of the tilt head, you can tilt the camera up and down.

    If you align your camera diagonally to the axis of the tilt head, you can change your camera orientation from portrait to landscape.

    I hope you can visualize what I am saying. If not, bring your camera and go to the photo stores and try it out yourself.
