    guys, chill ya.

as you can notice, i've made my mind not to reply to irrelevant posts.
evolution is not entirely wrong.(in the first place).
so lets leave it as it is.

as for getting a rig to shoot my cars, i've always wanted to do that.
any ideas where to get one?
and because of the boom, i reckon i must find a rather clear road to do it?
and i dont think it's TP friendly at all, aint it?

i know there's a Andy in cs who specialise in shooting cars for torque mah.

my car will be out next mon, latest tues...
    man...weekend will be looooooooooooong....

    haha.
actually my current ride is even more intriguing than the gtr.
just that it's been with me for sometime, hence, gtr is new blood.

    Interesting thread

Although Jeanie has already made her choice, I would like to share mine.

A car to me is beyond a form of transport. It is an extension of my life and it kind of represents me and my outlook. Public transport is efficient and reliable enough and I personally would not buy a car just for the sake of transport While comparing the Audi S5 against the Nissan GTR may not seem fair, it is still an interesting comparision.

Let's start with the German S5. For those who had a chance to own an Audi 10 years or more back, it was a nightmare. But lately Audi has been slowly gaining its foothold in the continential car market here in the past few years. It has improved alot in terms of design, fittings, quality and most importantly reliability. The S5 is one of the most beautiful coupe Audi has produced. However that being said, looking beyond the beauty and class aspect, it lacks a soul. There is nothing much (aside from the quad exhausts, silver side mirrors, rims, brakes, etc..) that differentiates it from the A5. The V8 is also a bit of a letdown. It sounds very restricted. When it comes to V8, I personally feel Meserati should be the benchmark. I do not find the S5 attractive enough to feel special. That being said, my family have still stuck to German builts for the past 15 years. And Jeanie, I too have had alot of problems with BMW, both the 3 and the 7..

Now the Japanese GTR. The GTR has come along way and unlike some other Japanese cars which started out as a family saloon, it was build from the start with speed and performance in mind. Yes, the GTR is uncomfortable for the rear passengers but do bear in mind that rear passengers were never part of the plans :P Yes the GTR is expensive to maintain and drinks like an alcoholic. BUT....wat the heck, you do already know what you are getting yourself into when you commit to that purchase. Yes, thats the frankness of the GTR. The GTR may not look great, but looks were never part of the plan. EVERYTHING thats on plan has to contribute towards performance including looks.

Anyway, not to flood Jeanie's thread... I would go for the GTR simply because I love driving and driving to me is a theraphy. I would wake up early or stay up late, take the longest way back home, simply beacause I want to be behind the wheel at a time where people who drive beacause of transport are not on the roads anymore. No offences, but thats just my feeling and perspective towards cars and driving. It can get obsessive sometimes

    tan131,

    your driving passion reflects mine.
which is why i reach office early.
cos i wake up early just to really enjoy the driving there and not get stuck in jams.

incidently, probs with 3 and 7 series too, though the 3 was an M3...yes...M3.
i shant go into that.it's a whole new can of worms...

maser is cool but why a toned-down ferrari?
it's like you want to buy a prancing horse yet you cant really afford it.
makes no sense to me, unless you are referring to MC12.
    even quadroportte, didnt like it.

i love your phrase of driving being a therapy.
    it's so true...

Jeanie, mine was just a normal 3

The 7 however, was bad. Car shut down totally on NSH and had to tow in back.

Why the Maserati, simply cos I think its more drivable day to day. Plus, I love the trident

When you get your baby, lets go for some theraphy together if you are keen..but you got to give chance k... mine has onli 184bhp.

btw, when i was driving the gtr, 'amy'(that's what jeremy clarkson called her) started talking to me.
i have absolutely no friggin idea what she was saying cos it's in JAP!

the nice touch was the car automatically lower the volume of the radio before amy speaks....

really wished i knew and could speak jap.
am really looking foward to meeting godzilla...

To be fair, Audi has *generally* been known amongst the 3 german makes to be the one that is more understated and the better interior build. very much like how MB is the more luxurious and BMW the better chasis.

car nuts can all debate until the cows come home about specific models, but that is the design philosophy and knowing the design philosophy can go very far in understanding where the brand is coming from. All 3 used to go for an evolutionary and not revolutionary growth both in terms of engineering and look. This would explain why to some A5/S5 looks similar to the A4 and A6. In fact, BMW was the most conservative in terms of evolution looks wise, if you like, until Chris Bangle came on board. Now just look at the new mercs, there is nothing evolutionary about their design.

But I digress. Audi's design philosophy has always been more on subtlety and being discreet, which explains why the S5 does not look very much different from the A5. ie, they like to build sleepers. This appeals to some. So to say it is not 'appealing enough' is, perhaps, more accurately, a way of saying one does not buy into their design philosophy.

As for the sound of the V8, the fact remains this is a bit down the pecking order from a Trident which is not called a 4 door ferrari for nothing.

    That's my 2 cents' worth.

so what the world needs is a car with Merc level luxury, BMW chasis, Audi subtlety, a dash of hot italian inspiration from Maser or Ferrari, and Nissan's pricing and gungho willingness to take on the 911.

anybody complaining about German build quality should have a go at VW's fifth generation Golf GTI and R32.

then you'll know what real shoddy quality is. and they're supposedly made in Germany, not them out source to South Africa kind.
    chicken fight!

The car is designed with the sloping roof in mind & the c pillar, that the air would flow into the rear wing... no need to be too 'kua zhang'.

incidently, i did drive the gti as well as the r32.
honestly, the build quality....(can i use the word SUCKS?)
when i was driving the gti, a unknown rattling sound was so prominent.
and the sales exec actually tried covering it up by turning on the sound system, and i told him to switch it off.
then i told him about the rattling, and he said it's normal.
and all hatches are 'like that'.
    i nearly fainted.
when i read (was it torque magazine?) a magazine when they review the r32, they reported an unknown rattling sound from the A pillar.

that having said, gti looks good, nice run-around-car, but the thing about DSG GB is that the move-off sometimes jerks...something i cant really live with.
when i drove the GTR, i didnt really experience such problem.
the only thing i dont really like about the gtr is the sound coming from the trans, or the LSD.
'clunk clunk clunk' at low speeds.
happens too for my previous rides, so i guess it's normal.

so, am i right to say though rear wing gives downforce at high speeds, BUT it is a risk to overestimate the grip and if you push it further, your cause of crash could be due to the rear wing??

so does that mean ferraris cant design engines?
the f430's wing mirrors are designed to channel air into the air duct for the engine which is rear mounted.
aero plays such a large part in super cars.
look at veyron.it even has a automatic retractable rear wing.
Oh yes, I remember Stig crashing in the CCX.... and Top Gear are so proud that they helped 'develop' the car with that incident....

Yes, there is no denying that aero aids/grip help, especially at high speeds. Just do not be overly dependent on it. The CCX's new rear wing, Veyron's retractable rear wing - they are all relatively small. Like Shaz said, it's about finding a balance between aero and mech grip.
