No. You should see what some so called fixed MkIIIs can do even with slow moving subjects.
I have experienced it myself and with fast moving subjects as well. I dare say that in retrospect, the AF from lower-end cameras like the 20D onwards are far more reliable than the Mk III's.You seem very determined to prove that (yours, in particular) Mk IIIs are perfect, and that a very respected consultant's view is an isloated case. I wonder why. ![]() |

Well you might say it could be a user issue....that I am not sure. I should have used his 50D to test that day too. Might ask him to go bird park again. As for Rob being a very reputable consultant.....I will reserve my comments on that. How partial is he remains a question to me. |

Okay how I calibrate my system....during the AF fixed....I sent in all my lenses together with the body and get CSC to calibrate all my lenses to the body....after that.....almost perfect. Even more perfect with primes. I have 2 friends with 1DM3....I was the first to send in full system (1 body plus 6-7 lenses) to "AF fixed". Then the other 2 followed and did the same. Both have no issue with AF after that. All this are done FOC. (Actually, I didn't experience much of a AF issue to begin with. Cos I bought the cam 1.5 years after launch....may be that might be the reason.) Last edited by lightning; 31st May 2009 at 11:47 PM. |

Not to say that the mkIII is no good but the mkIII could be giving more in focus shots because it's easier to track a moving object with 45 AF points as compared to 9. In this case it is not because of the superior AF of the mkIII that is giving you more keepers but rather the inadequacy of the user that is causing so many OOF shots with the 20d etc. I used my friends mkII with my 40d side by side and I do notice that when you can keep your centre AF point on the object (shooting cars), the 40d actually gives more in focus shots than the mkII.
