For Crop camera....
Canon's EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5.... or Sigma's 10-20mm f4-5.6..... if you can wait, then 10-20mm f3.5 Tamron & Tokina also have Wide Angle lens.... but only at 11mm or 12mm at their widest. |

Tamron has the 10-24mm WA lens as well. The 11-18mm is the old model.

carl zeiss distagon T 18mm f3.5. haha. too bad it's MF.
again, really depends on your body. and your budget. 1.6x crop get the 10.22. if full frame, 17.40L sounds like a good choice. Last edited by ridehomewithme; 30th May 2009 at 09:59 PM. |

ic, ic,, but how about the bokeh, i'm sure you still need a lil bit bokeh for event right? especially wedding.
i dont think this Canon's EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 can give good bokeh. am i wrong?

On the contrary, the bokeh on the 10-22 is supposed to be quite good. However, you're not likely to see the bokeh much because UWAs' DOF is quite great, quite hard to have situations where you can see it

17mm on your 40D will give a wide angle equivalent of 27mm, which would be wide enough for general purpose photography but not the true 17mm FOV. For that you will want a 10-22mm.
Suggest you borrow both lenses and see the FOV for yourself.

im using tokina 12-24mm..F4..the constant aperture is good.
if u r on budget, this is one good lens to use. Sigma has another 10-20mm which has good reviews, problem is, do you realli need that wide? |

Well if we assume that the TS has a kit lens, i.e. something like 18-55, a 17-40 pretty much overlaps with that range.

Not true. What dictates that event photography must have photos with shallow DoF (not bokeh - bokeh refers to the quality of the out of focus blur)?
