Default AF Modes

Hi all...

I really appreciate if someone can tell me when to use these following Canon AF modes :

AI Servo, One Shot , AF Servo.

Thanks for sharing.

This is actually answered in your manual.

One shot focuses only once. AI Servo mantains and adjust focus as long as you track the subject. AI Focus causes your camera to be smart and switch between both modes as necessary.

AI Servo AF: used for moving subjects and focuses continuously
AI Focus AF: used for unpredictable motion; Focus as ONE shot,
but swithces to AI Servo AF if the subject moves and focus continously on the moving subject.
One Shot AF: still subjects and snapshots.

Hope it help

Reading the manual is really helpful. It's amazing how many features are packed into these cameras!

Thanks all for sharing your knowledge.

The camera is not mine. Just borrowed it from my friend who lost his manual and do not know this function well himself.

Anyway, thanks again.

How reliable is AI-Focus AF? Is it dependable, or sometimes hit-miss? Cos it seems to do both jobs.

I'm currently relying on One-Shot for still subjects but using AI-servo on moving subjects.

personally i find that one shot focus is a little inconvenient for those who have shakey hands that tend to go forwards n backwards, resulting in loss of focus sometimes; especially if the subject is near the lens /closeup. i usually use ai servo, but some lens seem to focus slow, only then i'd use af-focus
