Everyone has different preferences. I suggest you keep the default numbers, shoot in raw then see how they turn out in DPP. If after shooting for some time, you find that you always adjust brightness, sharpness, etc in a particular "direction", then you can try to set those as your default in cam.

When you say settings, do you mean in-camera adjustments?

Usually the picture style people use is Standard, which if I'm not wrong is the default setting for Canon cameras.

For in-camera contrast and saturation, you can programme the amount of contrast and saturation you want through the menu button and save it under "user defined".

You should shoot first and then experiment with these settings until you find the level of in-camera adjustment you are happy with. Most shoot at standard which does not provide for any adjustments in-camera but post-processing can always be used to achieve the desired effects.

oh so basically i should just "import" the settings i love using during PP into the camera after i've established my "favourite" settings? I'm using parameter 1 now.

Yeah. Just try tinkering around with the different levels of contrast and saturation available until you find what you're happy with. If that's too troublesome, another option would be to shoot in RAW with all the settings put to '0' and then adjust during post-processing work. I use a combination of the two to minimise the amount of post processing I have to do.

I usually like to keep everything neutral, only tweaking in post. When I was using a 20D and 30D, everything was kept at 0, with only sharpness at 1.
