What is the recommended resolution or MP if we will to print 4R ?
(i.e the file we pass to the photo shop)

Or we should give them the Max resolution ? like 15MP or more ?

I think optimized is 300dpi, which is 1800x1200 for 4R. That should be more than enough

if the ratio is correspond with the paper size, you can give them max resolution, but it does not have much benefit, only save your trouble of resizing the images.

I also think 1800 x 1200 is enough for 4R print. I'll always resize my images to that ratio all the time before bringing them to photo printing. Sometimes I will go for 10R using the same ratio and no prob so far.

Posting a PM reply with similar question, it may help others on similar issue.

    Hi there,

Sorry to bother you, just like to enquire from the seniors here. Before sending your photos to the photo shop what sizes do you guys resize them to first? in terms of pixel ?

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards,
depends on what paper size are you printing it, there are two things to consider, #1 image ratio and paper size ratio, #2 resolution.

#1, you are using a canon 450D, the image ratio is 2:3, so if you print a 4R (4"x6") photos, S8R (8"x12"), since the paper size having the same ratio, you need not re crop your image, but if you want to print other paper size like 5R (5"x7"), or 8R (8"x10"), you need to crop it yourself before you send it for print, altho the lab can crop it for you, but it may not in the way you want it.

#2, the minimum requirement for decent quality printing is 250ppi, usually we give 300ppi for easy calculation. so a 4R (4"x6") photo, you need to have 1200x1800pixel, a S8R (8"x12") you need 2400x3600pixel, you can give higher than 300ppi, for an example, you can send a original large jpg to print a 4R, but you can't give lower than 250ppi. the photo it will be pixelated.

    hope this help.

This is the data charted for 4R:

    Image size: 640 x 480px
    Uncropped print size (200ppi): 3.2" x 2.4"
    Uncropped print size (300ppi): 2.1" x 1.6"

4R is 4"x6", so where would that be anywhere near 4R?

If you are printing 4R prints at 300ppi, you should ideally have an image of 1800x1200px

    For a rough guide........
Extract from Fotohub on-line printing website

Size - Resolution - Appox file size
    4R - 1024 x 768 - 250Kb
    5R - 1200 x 800 - 450Kb
    6R - 1280 x 1024 - 600kb
    8R - 1600 x 1200 - 1MB
