Default Battery Life of Canon S45

I'm currently using the Canon S45 digital camera and have noticed the battery life does not seem to be that lasting. Using the original battery, I can only manage around 50+ shots using the LCD all the time and the occasional flash. Is that normal or am I expecting too much? I was kinda hoping to take around double that amount on a single charge. Maybe someone can answer the following questions.
  1. What's the best way to handle the camera? Should I leave it on but turn the LCD screen off in between shots or should I shut the camera down completely?
  2. Should I take the battery out of the camera if I don't intend to use the camera for more than a week?
  3. How long does it normally take to completely charge a flat battery? Mine seems to be fully charged in under an hour. Can I just leave the battery in the external charger overnight or should I take it out once the indicator turns green?

That's about all I have to ask for now. Thanks in advance!

1. Shut the display off if not taking. You may use more power by switching on and off the camera.

2. Yes, coz it still drains the battery slowly. Moreover, it also prevents it damaging the camera if it leaks (touch wood).

3. Read your manual and follows what is says. My G5 blinks orange when charging, stops blinking when got to 80% (1 hour charging) and remains orange. Goes to green when fully charged (another 2.5 hours).

Advice: try getting a 3rd party battery from eastgear coz like you my battery last something like 150 shots with flash. Now my new battery still going strong after 280 shots (80 shots in flash).

Well, right now the manual isnt with me...I left it in Singapore and I'm studying in Melbourne now. But if I'm not mistaken, a green light means the battery is fully charged already. Thanks for the reply, might consider getting one from Eastgear when I'm back in Singapore.

Hi,
It's time to change your battery! S45 should have better power management. My previous digicam, S40, has poor battery performance, it barely lasts 2 hours of heavy usage. With S45, I can get faster flash recharge and a longer low-battery indicator (which doesn't die off seconds after the indicator flashes).

Get yourself a compatible battery from AP, costing about $30. Or turn off the sound on your camera, which is rather annoying. You don't hear your SLR bleeping around when you navigate the menu. Besides, why bother with artificial shutter sound when professionals have been trying to achieve quieter SLR camera performance?

BTW, just to share with you there is a compatible lens thread for S30/40/45/50 series! My S45 just had a new lease of life!!

Cheerios!
