I think if you intend to be drunk, then no place is safe..... or keep away from drunken fiends... ![]()

Haha,
I second rokieto's opinion. Maybe it was those drunken friends who started the fight? Com'on, we have all been drunk before, and only regret thereafter (sometimes) Japan is one of the few countries, that I feel really safe walking alone at night. So if Japan is dangerous, Singapore is scary! |

The yakuza are notoriously xenophobic, esp towards Chinese and Koreans.
But running around drunk will get you into trouble in any part of the world. |

an exposure in japan few years ago. in kyoto, we were staying at a small hotel in the suburb. within walking distance from the hotel, our ang mo guide guided us through a walk in the neighbourhood. we walked past a three storey stand-alone bungalow with cadillac in the front porch. there were men in full suit hanging around. later, we were told by our guide that it was the residence of a yakuza boss.
later, at a public bath, two of us, me included, went in to have a bath. in it, we saw a few of the 'henchmen' fully unclothed, full tattoos from shoulder to ankle. they did not bother us at all. in my view, they usually do not bother others, as they are not petty criminals. |

No It's extremely dangerous in Japan, you will be pushed onto the train tracks by the crowds, Mt Fuji will explode anytime, yakuza gangsters will force you into porn, you will get diaorrea from sushi.

It's generally safe... just stick to the touristy places if you are worried.
Of course avoid certain places... Like red light district.. which is where most of them are. Where were your friends drinking anyway... in tokyo ? |

It is quite safe to travel on your own in Japan, at least it will not be more dangerous than Singapore, unless you ask for trouble yourself.

Japanese people generally keep to themselves minding their own business. Just avoid eye contact like on a parisan subway, turn off ur handphone ringtone and for heaven's sake do not photograph the yakuza

the photos they have posted here in clubsnap are just cover-ups given to them by the yakuza gangsters led by their ringleader Godzilla. beware! better not go! if you go, best to make sure you bring Ultraman figurines to ward off yakuza. |

Japan is a very safe country to travel la, of course when u are there dont do stupid things, respect their culture and have fun
however as the saying goes "low crime doesnt mean no crime" just use some common sense. |

Hi
I was in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka in early April on a group tour. Tokyo is where the Yakuza has very strong control over their territories. The guide brought us to the red-light district in the morning as an eye-opener. But he cautioned that he would not bring us anywhere near the district at night, to avoid trouble. So, just stay away from trouble and Japan is very safe. |

I think is perfectly fine. I walked past the streets filled with the blacks. Basically if u dont look like their target, they will leave u alone.
