Is there a real need to have so many knives? Or is it a collection thing? For function, I would have thought one or two of different sizes would be sufficient. Just asking only

the leatherman is used all the time around the house.

the picknicker is something i always carry in my pocket.

my main camping knife is the buck 110 workman. the 112 is for my daughter when she's old enough. the pre-80's bucks were purchased basically for collection, as were the finger grooved models.

my spartan has been retired, and the other folders were bought for collecting.

some were gifts, others purchased many years ago. the LM and the buck 110 workman were purchased in SG in the mid 90's, some i got from ebay and the swiss knives from my local camping store.

if you look around carefully, you can find some good bargains. i got the buck 110 and 112 from ebay off the same seller. both knives were brand new and never been used or carried and came with orginal buck leather cases, no boxes. i paid $90 for the pair. i considered this a bargain as a brand new 110 from the shops is about $90 itself.

the LM was $50 brand new from a hardware shop in Novena square (i think). a real bargain if you ask me, because the new model LMs are about tripple that price.

i heard sigarms or singarms has closed shop already. it was good place to get decent blades.

yeah, can't wait myself. it's a fixed blade and will be used as my main camping/bush knife. the 110 will still be brought along, but as a backup piece.

it's here! the SOG SEAL pup with a ballistic nylon sheath. this beauty is all function, full tang, SS blade, non-slip polymer handle, combination straight and serrated blade. fully tested to withstand being imersed in salt water for weeks without any corrosion. it's the smaller brother of the SOG SEAL Team (or 2000), the knife used by the US navy seals (so SOG claims).

    sheathed...

    the SEAL pup...

this will be my new camp knife with the 110 folder as a back-up.

There's a nice Knife shop on the highest level of Plaza Singapura, if any one is interested in collecting such items.

If you are referring to Caesars, I'm not sure that's the right place for the thread starter.

i've carried a pocket knife for ages, the spartan has been a constant companion for the past 15 years, it's now been replaced by the picknicker.

there's no telling when and how they will be used. i use mine to open bottles, cans, cut rope, bread, fruit, tighten screws, tripod heads, etc.

another one on the way... the Ontario USAF survival knife. I first saw this model of knife when i was a kid back in the early 70's (probably made by camillus back then). it was at a PX (tax free) shop at the then Clark airbase in the philippines. at over a 100 pesos, it was a princely sum back then. i've always wanted one since.

the Ontario 499 pilot's (USAF) survival knife. this one's brand new and made in 2008. full leather sheath, heavy duty stiching, rivited metal reinforcement along the back and tip of the sheath. the knife uses carbon steel, so it's easy to sharpen and holds a decent blade. compressed leather ring handle gives a decent grip, it'll take a while to season, like all leather material. it's got a good heft and balance, this is one beauty of a knife...

    sheathed

the knife itself. has serations on top of the blade for notching or cutting metal (aluminum). the pommel at the end is great for pounding (nails, nuts, etc.)

here's the whole kit, it comes with a small sharpening stone... way cool.

hmmm... the SOG or the 499?
