hihi newbie here! =)
anybody went to the outdoor concert yesterday night? i was there playing with my D90 + kit lens, had fun playing around with all the diff metering, AE/AF lock etc. i also quite amazed by the performance of D90 under high iso, most shots i took were using iso 1000 - 2500, the photos are still acceptable to me... haha... i also tried the video mode of d90, took in medium size, they are clear! hee... by the way, i saw many ppl holding on pro camera and lenses! SOOOO ENVY... >< just wondering any of those photographers i saw yesterday are also CSer... hmm... please post up the photos here if u were the one there! want to learn all the settings you all using! haha... below are some shots from me! C&C welcomed! #1 #2 - these are balloons from liangwenyin's fansclub, tried many shots to get this orientation coz they kept swinging it... @@ ok... that 2 bright spots are reflections from my harsh build in flash =\ #3 - kelly with Mr. and Mrs. Zhou #4 - this hand kept blocking me from taking photos, and finally i decided to include it in my photo somehow... adjusted the flash compensation several times to make the front and background exposure more balanced... #5 - i like this one! haha... shld have cropped away mrs. zhou at the left, but i think i'll just leave it there now to remind me to compose photos better!

#6 i like the expressions on the face, but it's blown out coz there is another photographer flashed at the same time! haha...
#7 shen mu yu tong (a.k.a Y2j) #8 da zui ba #9 it's actually liangwenyin's name and photo on the white fan they holding, a bit blur coz i was using the largest possible aperture at tat zoom length (f5.6), cant stop down anymore coz i was shooting at iso 2000 and shutter speed 1/40 liao..

Some comments.. Hope you don't mind..
#1 : perhaps you can crop out the supporters sitting on the floor. Its distracting.. #2 : nice shot. #3 : timing of the shot not too good cos the guy was covering his face and kelly was looking down on the ground. #4 : quite interesting.. you focused on the camera instead. maybe you can brighten the picture some using software. #5 : not a very good shot.. You got blocked by cameras? #6 : the shot is quite nice, but like you said its over blown by the flash. Wasted. The rest of the shots are ok imo.. Good effort! Keep shooting and improving! |

therefore i need to use the live view function to compose all the photos, and becoz the autofocus in live view is EXTREMELY slow, i used manual focus (focus on their faces) or focus lock (in autofocus mode) instead, then the camera wont need to waste so much time on focusing, but then there is still shutter lag when i press the shutter release button, the camera need to flip down the second mirror (not too sure abt the name ) before it snap. so there'll be abt 1 sec lag, and most likely will miss the right moment... ![]() guess i'll need to bring down a chair next time, like wat other proffesional photographers did yesterday... ![]()

Were u the guy standing near the technical crew? Did you move forward when the crowd shited?
U should bw getting a telephoto lens. If u r the guy I guess, look at the other guy on yr left and right too. All of them used mainly 70 - 200 or 300 mm lens. I was standing on the ladder, using a 70 - 300mm lens but most of my shots are lousy last night. Good attempt. Keep it up. |

i was shooting onli with my build in flash or no flash at all... composing with live view is a lot easier, but there's still shutter lag of abt 1 sec even with manual focus, i also wasted a lot shots with bad timing... the photographer (let's dun call him "uncle" ), was he the one standing high with many cameras? he was standing on the left... he used compact to shoot videos, and he have another 2 cameras... ![]()
