Default Mount Bromo

Standing at a height of 2392 meters, Mount Bromo isn't the tallest mountain in Java. That title goes to 3676 meter tall Mount Semeru, located to the south of Mount Bromo and within sight. Also called Mahameru, meaning "great mountain", Mount Semeru is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia constantly belching steam from its peak. An undulating plateau interrupted by valleys and lakes reaches right to the foot of Mount Semeru. They are all located within the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park.

Another view of Mt. Bromo from Lava view Lodge

Hindu temple at the foot of the mountain. The temple is a reminder that some of the Hindu Tengger people stayed behind when the Majapahit empire fell and many others fled to Bali,

Just beyond the Hindu temple are the lower slopes of Mount Bromo, the choice is to either walk across the slick volcanic sands to the base of Bromo's cone, or ride one of the horses on offer.

From the temple a steep path of 250 steps leads to the edge of Mt. Bromo crater .

Love this photo....... the condition I guess was very foggy, maybe a crop would make it nicer.

nice series. i like the details shown in each photo, even those showing mountains and cloud and the horizon.

you must have used a very sharp lens, with circular polariser to boot.

would love to hear what lens and settings you used, particularly for photo No. 1 and the pic showing "Inside Mount Bromo".

thnks.

Hi all, Thank you for your all the comments. #1 photo you have to get up early around 3:30am in the morning to the Panajakan view point to get best spot, for me i went up late to the view point and it's already crowded with people and photograpers taking the best spot, eventually i got to squeezed myself to get that shot. Most of the photos taken with using Nikon 12-24 F4 len and nikon 16-85vr. Nikon 12-24 len is indeed a sharp len to use. It actually quite foggy and i didn't use any polariser filter, what i did was using nikon capture NX2 to bring out some of the details.

Wow, nice. I've heard about this place but never seen pics of it. For the Hindu temple, may I know if it's once surrounded by a lake or something else?

your "dangerously beautiful" really gives me the vertigo feel!

The Hindu temple not surrounded by any river but it surrounded by sea of sand,it's actually ash from the eruption of mt bromo. It is best to visit mount bromo during the offering ceremony of Kasodo held each year by Tenggerese on the 14th day of full moon Kesodo (Tenggerese Calendar) Sept or Oct if i'm not wrong, they will gather at the rim of Mt. Bromo's active crater to present annual offerings of rice, fruits, vegetables, flowers, livestock thrown inside the crater offering to the God of the mountain. As adherents of religion combining elements of Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism, they ask for blessing from the supreme God Hyang Widi Wasa.
