Canon 450D. I'm a noob. I think movie mode in DSLRs is a gimmick and didn't think the extra for the 500D was worth it, and it gives me beautiful 14-bit RAW files as opposed to 12-bit RAW files with the Nikon D90.

i concur, getting 450D (best time to buy now!) next mth. I dun need the video feature and its a little bulky to use a DSLR to shoot videos. I got my trusty panasonic lumix pns to do the job.

Yep, lets face it, video on DSLRs is just a gimmick to sell more cameras. The quality, lack of autofocus, lack of external microphones etc etc...all sounds to me like the sort of marketing aimed at the masses more typically associated with P&S cameras. If you want quality video, you buy a camcorder. Period.

I'm using a camera that makes images. End of the day, why do you want to know what gear other people use?

It's human to compare what the other has. If you have $1000 you look at the person who has $2000.

Not true.Full HD video on the 5D mk 2 can actually rival camcorders.

is HD really that important sometimes i wonder? Cos to me it looks all the same... If you get what i mean. At most you are just shooting a memorable event... do you really need HD quality? You are not even shooting an action pack movie which needs the quality and clarity of the video.

Is HD required for a Wedding video? No right?

Anyway... you also need the HD player and HD tv to maximise the full potential of the HD video you took. Otherwise its just another 'ordinary' video if you are playing on a normal player and TV (in the end you got to spent on the player and TV).

For resolution and frame rate, yes. For features, no. And what about the audio quality?!

Agree...But often the video feature is just for fun etc.Not exactly necessary for most of us photographers though I know a friend who regularly shoots video on 5D MK2

Value for money is my game...the Pentax K20D is probably at the top at its current price range. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-0q9MiOFxY

it is so funny, just like seeing a man boasting about how good his fish rod and reel is, instead of showing people how many fishes he able to catch.

i have nikon d3 and canon mark d III

they are in my display case, and i don't take photos, but i bring photographer friends to my house to admire them...... along with the numerous bazooka lenses i have.. don't ask me focal length, i see BIG, i buy... because can impress people......

then when they finish worshipping me, i then up the game by showing them my hassleblads and leaf digital back....

If you are talking about taking wedding video, perhaps HD should be the way to go. The memory of your wedding should last you a life time, right? My wedding was shot using Video 8 cassette and transferred to regular cassette tape. You can hardly see anything other than something resemble human being walking around from the tape.

New technology usually being adopted slowly but just think back in the early '90 when digital started to replace film, it is the same argument from the people who use to shoot film. See what happened now.

Damn funny thread. The TS was asking to share some thoughts or picture on SLR (mentioned SLR twice) which could be antique and have a nostalgic feel. But some joker inteprete as DSLR and the rest start bashing around it.
