# Thread: Zig-Zag Line (Not straight Line)

1. ## Zig-Zag Line (Not straight Line)

Hi all,

Most of the furniture i took in this project got this problem. Below is one of the picture.
If you look carefully on the line of the drawers/swing door (Zoom in for more obvious), those line are Zig-Zag. Very obvious in the original higher resolution copy. I downsize to 30% to show you guys/gals. Anyone can explain?

2. ## Re: Zig-Zag Line (Not straight Line)

Wat zig zag lines are u refering to?

Yeah, what zig zag lines ?

Maybe you can post a pic here.

Thanks.

If you understand the basic of digital photography, all images are made up of tiny little square. So in this situation, all the tiny square are being stack up in a slanting direction.

Imagining you stack up blocks of cubes in a slanting direction and you'll find the answer.

One question for you to ponder on: while you can see the zig zag lines when zoomed in, are you actually planning on viewing or submitting the image at that magnification?

Ah now I understand "Those Zig Zag Lines" that he's been talkin abt haha... its unavoidable..

7. ## Re: Zig-Zag Line (Not straight Line)

I had already check on my colleague desktop, it is very less obvious (without zoom in)compare to my notebook with Intel Graphics Card (this Graphics Card sucks). Less obvious doesn't mean the line is straight. However, this problem still there.
I don't know whether can I PM the original pictures for you guys to view. sigh...

8. ## Re: Zig-Zag Line (Not straight Line)

Yeah.

When shoot at lower res, or using smaller sensors, that happens a lot.

Generally, unless your cam really chao kak one, and your processing so condem, those zigzags donlt appear in the final hi-res print.

If they do, assign me and I'll shoot the project for you.

Haha, at least one of you can see. Thank you CatByTe.
What you mean by it is unavoidable? How can Canon sell this lousy camera? I will not accept this kind of quality. The picture from my 3.2mp handphone sony ericsson camera is better than this 5mp PNS camera. Tell me how To accept?

Thank you CatByTe. You make my day.
Just now so many of others cannot see this Zig-Zag line, make me real worry.
No words can explain my feeling (Just like telling everybody I saw UFO and nobody believe me).

Hi Dream Merchant,
You can see too. Thank you.
Thank you for your offer. I will pm you if my company require one.
Btw, are you freelance or professional. Why I ask because my company probably will not pay so much for professional.

Cheers

Um..I tink this zigzag line u are referring to is inherent to any digital images. It is juz the magnitude of how obvious it can be. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-aliasing <- u can check up on the net for this. I dun tink u can find a perfect straight line if it's at an angle or slanted. By the way, the 3.2mp Sony ericsson camera may be worse den your canon 5mp. U can also take a look http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3337/...7f7b78bc_o.jpg at this picture, taken with a Canon 30D DSLR. Take a close look @ the mirrors of the motorcycle zoom in, it also has zigzag lines .

Hope it fills your question abt the zigzag lines.

So kind of you for getting all this findings for me. Thank you again.
Although I don't completely understand the "Anti-Aliasing" thing (very chim), it still fills my question.
FYI, the zigzag lines are obvious in your picture "motorcycle". Not only the mirror, the seat as well. Last night, I have check the other pictures taken with Nikon D300 DSLR also. I found some zigzag lines on the furnitures too (just that not so obvious compare to the one I have attached here).

17. ## Re: Zig-Zag Line (Not straight Line)

just use photoshop and draw a slanted line, and you'll see that it's made up of multiple straight lines in a "zigzag" manner

18. ## Re: Zig-Zag Line (Not straight Line)

Those jagged are are of irregular colors (could be shadows). Try without strong light or flash by placing cam on table or chair.

Alternative, pull the drawers out a bit giving effect of depth on the cabinet and enlarge the line gaps as well.

History of digital photography has a link with the olden (date or age ) with the Roman empire when they start using different coloured mozaic tiles to form a picture or mural on the floor / wall.

Thanks spheredome,

you are totally right, other picture without flash is less obvious than the picture (with flash) I have attached here.
