Dear CSers and IR geeks,
I wonder if anyone tried doing IR and CWB for D90? I tried all sorts of stuff under the hot sun but my dear D90 just keep telling me "no gd no gd no gd"... Am really fastrated standing so long under a big hot sun.... I tried doing ISO800-1600 15secs etc etc(whatever useful info I can find in the forum) still not working.... Hope some kind souls can give me some ideas? I tried 2 lens - Nikkor DX 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 and Tamron 18-50mm F2.8.. Both CMI.... ![]() I try doing the CWB together with my older D50(Which I do IR all the time) and it works real fast... Guess I have to keep the D50 for IR..... Sounds like it is not getting enough light to do a white balance for you The D90 internal IR blocking filter is stronger than the one on the D70 so less reaches the sensor. You may try using the incadecent preset white balance- it does a pretty good job.

I too have a D90 and have had no sucess at IR with it, yet my D70 is brilliant for it. I have not tried JeffryZ's suggestion yet but will do so when I get time. Have you tried using RAW to do it yet ![]() Cheers ![]()

hi TS,
i've used the D90 for IR b4. i initially faced similar problems face by you. so in the end. my setup is D90 - WB set to 2500K. no EV compensation ISO 200 F8-F11 on average. to get a good results of IR ( using ELP filter) i had to do 40-70 sec of exposure. check histogram and adjust shutter speed accordingly. given the long exposure. i just revert back to my D70.

The RAW thing sounds slightly complex to me and I do not have the NC softwares. I tried using a RAW taken by D50 to put into the D90 but ended with more problems here and there (maybe because I am quite a computer idiot). Will try it out properly when I have the time. Meanwhile I guess I will stick to my beloved D50 for IRs. Giving up on the D90... =(

I have some RAW/NEF preset files from a MyINFRARED modded Nikon D90 Full Infrared camera. You can use it as a preset sample file in your Nikon D90 unmodded camera with Hoya R72 or even Cokin P007.
You may send me an email to get it for free. Dibyo Gahari dibyo@myinfrared.com www.myinfrared.net Last edited by dibyogahari; 30th May 2009 at 10:54 PM. |
