Default RedBull X-Fighters @ The Singapore Flyer

Shooting something i don't usually shoot
It was fun and challenging, really low light and fast action that require a fast shutter speed

came prepared with a D700 and a 200-400 f4 VR to shoot from afar
going against my old timer method of pre focusing, i decided to put the AF system to the test
and to my surprise, in near total darkness the AF system was able to get it almost 90% of the time

here are some of my humble shots

i did not use a flash, so the light actually came from other photographers

Hi Ortega,

Just out of curiosity. The distance must be quite far away. Why not put the lens on infinity?

as it was a night event, the lights were more or less a "no choice" i guess but it really spoilt quite a lot of pano shots for me too. pumping the ISO dont help either. Hope there's a day event around the region since singapore is the first leg...

good point but due to the expect shallow DOF that f4 gives plus the telephoto that i was using, i decided to test out the AF system of this setup

usually i shoot pre focused with more DOF.

you mean noise? the noise only appears on certain parts, those under exposed areas (non black) right?
