Does anyone know if this lens is still available in market? This is basically the first and one and only zoom lens macro from Nikon.

There was thread earlier on on this lens.
http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showt...0+-180mm+micro I have the tamron 90mm, 180mm and the 105mm VR micro. All produce excellent results. Perhaps the 200mm micro f4 will be my next purchase. Found out the price in HK is much cheaper around SGD$1600-1700 as compare to SG around SGD$2300+GST. If you have friends or travelling to HK, it is certainly worth considering. |

Limbros, may I know if the Nikon 105mm VR worth investing in? If it is the 200mm then it will be too much of a difference in price

Depend on your application. I find 105mm bulky otherwise it is very useful lense for macro field work even with R1C1 attached to it, I often shoot without tripod so the VR is a plus. Also it is IF so the lense don't protrude out during focusing, very important feature for me not to spook the subject. The 200mm will provide you with the distant to reach some insect which the 105mm can't. Alternatively, you could try the Tamron sp 90mm or 180mm, I have both of them. Value for money and produces excellent results. Again, if budget is no constraint then go for nikon. |

Or the Sigma 150mm, that's one of the usual suspects brought in as a comparison for those considering the 105mm VR

hopefully Nikon will update these older macro lenses, since they have updated the 60mm and 105mm. They are all gems to use with.

I use the 105mm VR for close up portraits too. At f/8, it is razor pin point sharp!
