Does anyone consider Nikon Filters for your Nikon Lenses?
I have difficulties to find a thread that discuss this filter in detail. Most of us here are using B+W, Hoya, etc etc. Are Nikon filters bad? a bit rip-off? hard to find in SG? Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Oh wow, that's interesting, and yeah should be L37C the UV one.
How about the quality of it compared to other like B+W or Hoya (hopefully you have them so you can compare )

My bro replaced one of his Hoya HMC with Nikon, because it doesn't cause flare, but HMC does. Not sure about SHMC and Pro1D, but HD doesn't cause flare

This sounds Nikon is better than some type of Hoya. Any comparison with B+W ?

Nikon filter: Optically very clear, best among all (i feel). Much lesser flare than the rest (including B+W) Not so easy to clean compared to B+W. Hoya: Cheap, value for $$$. (HMC, ProD, etc) B+W: Easy to clean. Solid brass ring built (not all). Tokina, Vitacon, etc: I only use them for cheap lenses. Good for protection (only, i feel). I use Nikon NC filters for my lenses. It's just a matter of preference and what is more impt to u. I don't soil my lenses easily, so clean up is not a problem for me. I think this has been discussed before. Maybe it is hidden somewhere...

I am using Nikon NC filters. Cost wise, Nikon is slightly cheaper than B+W. The image quality is just as good as B+W. Personally, I can't really tell the difference, unless I zoom in to 100% and scrutinized every pixels

Comparing Nikon & B+W is like comparing Lexus & Merc/BMW. One from Japan, the other from Germany. Both are way up there but different followers. I use Nikon, Hoya, Tokina & an (unknown) SunBliz filters. By the way Hoya is manufactured by Tokina. It's stated on the box.

I use Nikon filters whenever possible, but also have a few B+W and Hoya's. Hoya for more el cheapo lenses for protection, and a toss up for Nikon and B+W, although through recent readings and personal experience it appears that B+W filters are easier to clean, and there are stuff not made by Nikon, then there is really no choice.
But honestly in all but the most demanding application (like shooting into the sun) I don't see a difference between Nikon, B+W and Hoya. BTW Nikon Soft 1 is the best soft focus filter ever made! Soft yet sharp, go figure. Last edited by diediealsomustdive; 13th May 2009 at 11:17 AM. |

Thanks, if I may summarize some of comments here, Nikon is slightly better than Hoya (quality wise) while it is debatable to compare with B+W - probably I'm a bit biased here.
To think about that Nikon decided to play some part in the lens filter market (which IMHO it's pretty tiny market to them), there must be some good reasons behind it e.g. their filters are really designed to _specifically_ compliment their product range of lenses - perhaps. Or probably there are some secret recipe on the lens build that they put into filter build (something that is not shared with 3rd parties like Schneider/B+W), just to make the image came from Nikon lens _and_ filter look better than other combo. Comments anyone?

Nikon Soft one and Soft two are famous, but you should take a look at Heliopan Zeiss softar filter. this is industry standard soft filter for many professionals. |

I use both Nikon & B+W. The most obvious difference between the two is Nikon is much harder to clean.
