Given the recent price hike of Nikon lenses, I've noticed there are alot people selling their second hand lens for example 70-200mm f2.8 VR without warranty at about $2500-$2600. Obviously the lens was bought before the price hike.
For your reference, the price before price hike for this lens according to Nikon subforum price guide was: AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED - $2450 (TK, Dec08 - xtemujin) | $2450 (MS, Sep08 - Xiao_Shin) | $2500 (CP, Sep08 - MaZaCA) | $2450 (AP, Nov08 - Joe1031) Current price for a new piece would be about $3000. Will you buy those second lenses which are overpriced? ![]() |

HAhaha... but im sure someday, someone who buy. Its a matter of time. The price is often determined by a willing buyer. Unless there is warranty of at least 10 months, i seriously doubt any savy buyer would buy at 2.5K. On the same note, notice how many of the items in BnS have just expired warranty? =p Regards

Which goes to show that one should have bought the lenses before the price hike, no? Nothing wrong with said prices since it is still discounted than RRP. The sellers are merely opportunists.
One could always scout out online deals or survey overseas B&S for better deals. It's all a matter of how badly you want the camera/lens. |

since the selling price of new lenses has been revised upwards, why fault sellers for picking up on the trend and bumping up the selling price of their 2nd hand lens accordingly? it's just like buying stocks, or gold, antiques, or even hoarding tamiflu and N95 masks. it's just too bad that you didn't buy the brand new lens at the cheaper price before the price hike, that's all.
overpriced? relative to what? whether the $500 saving off the new price of $3000 is worth it, is up to the individual buyer. but if you are comparing to the old price, times have changed, it's time to move on. noodles used to cost 50 cents and petrol used to be cheap.. |

I won't... Unless 2nd hand is very cheap, I won't buy it, cos I don't know how the person takes care of the equipment.
If I need the lens and I can't afford to buy 1st hand, I rather rent it... |

willing buyer willing seller....if you feel the price not right for you just ignore. A rolex watch my mom has cost $2K plus 20 years ago...now people are will to pay $6K for it....
I bought my HTC diamond for $350 and later trade in at $400.....so should I tell M1 that I actually bought the phone at $350 and should not trade in at $400? Last edited by lightning; 13th May 2009 at 10:33 PM. |
