Thread: Editorial Rates

    Default Editorial Rates

i was approached by a friend to give a quote on a 2 days shoot for a magazine. it will be for their editorial usage. the problem is i have no idea how much to charge for it. do i go by per page or per pic or per day of work?

i have been approached mainly cos i am very new and so they expect a lower rate than what an experienced photographer is charging.

i have an idea for fashion spread shoot rates but for this, i have totally no idea at all. anyone can give me a ballpark figure?

I would probably charge per day seeing as per image if you get the quote 'wrong' they may only use one image. Id probably think about $500 per day as a ballpark figure. But make sure they know they only get usage rights for that publication and date, not full rights.

Yeh, the last thing you want is two days solid work and then only being paid for one image. No worries

At least charge them enough to cover for your expenses if the job is portfolio worthy. You should probably either charge per image of per page(if the picture is going full-page or dual page spread). If it's not portfolio worthy, then I won't do it.

For me, I would charge for both. Both for my time to shoot as well as a price per shot. Of course, the price per shot would depend on how large the image is going to be in the magazine.

that was my initial idea but seems like most ppl advise charge by daily rate only.
