Just a question for those well-versed with manual SLR. I intend to use a AFD 24-85mm F/2.8-4 on my Nikon FE. The biggest aperture for the lens at 85mm is F/4. If I leave the aperture ring at 2.8, will the FE meter based on F/2.8, which will cause under-exposure, or will it automatically knows to meter at F/4?
I've turned the ring between F/2.8 and F/4 at 85mm, and the shutter speed meter doesn't move at all. |

Don't worry, your camera would be able to read the correct metering. Never had any problems with my manual cameras when I use my variable aperture zooms

you can simple to a test, take metering with any aperture @24mm on a plain wall, change the focal length to 85mm, you will notice that you didn't dial the aperture ring, but the exposure reading has changed.

Thanks for the replies! Was initially concerned about the position of the aperture ring, and how the camera reads the selected aperture.

Thanks for sharing. Was quietly wondering why the dot. Now I know.
