Default Problem for D300

hi,
Today went for shooting and found out that the information in the viewfinder is missing.
although everything still work fine except for that.

i off and on it again, the information is back in the viewfinder but sometime show funny character. (example : ISO 400 -> !$^#%)

my batt is low at that time, i was wondering whether the battery cause this problem.

anyone got this problem before?

If i send to NSC, i was wondering how should i describe the problem as it is intermittent.
