I know that the white balance is off but what can I do to make it look nicer on the white balance?
Do I need a skylight filter? Thanks. |

Either set your white balance correctly in the first place, or shoot in RAW so you can tweak later.

Just to clarify, it's the down light which makes it a yellowish colour.

A useful quick fix was shared by a CSer here, http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showt...hlight=perfect requires your own bit of tweaking once applied.

If use photoshop too much, the photos won't have originality.
(That's what I think) |

Hi
I shot 7 temples this vesak day and shoot temples almost on a weekly basis. Heres my 2 cents thoughts 1) Only 1 photo here is distinctively vesak (the one with glassware). The rest of the pics can be found in the routine praying sessions throughout the year. That is also why sometimes shooting buddhist temple is challenging coz u have to find the "Distinct Festival Icon". 2) Do u have a pic of the Buddha bathing, Buddhist flag or Vesak lanterns/lights? These are the main icons of vesak 3) Do u have a pic of the sky of FGS? Someone informed me that some auspicious signs appeared in the skies of FGS during vesak 4) Ven Man Ko is not too flatteringly expressed in your photo. Do try taking nicer pics of ppl esp if they are the VIP or event masters 5) Do u have pictures of their vesak concert? FGS has a photographic group. Think u can get some great tips from the photo laojiaos there too ![]() Last edited by earthling82; 13th May 2009 at 09:17 AM. |

these does not change the originality (whatever that means ) otherwise your photo does not look appealing however good the composition is |

Thanks for your comments and advices. I'm a newbie into events and festivals photography. I admit that I somehow was not prepared with the lens I needed at first, using the OM 50mm F1.8 on my E-510 body. It gives me too much zoom. In the end then I change to my ZD 40-150mm lens. The photo of Ven Man Ko was too close-up as I took the shot with my 50mm lens when she was too close so I had no choice to do a close-up. I only stayed there for awhile and left as the main hall was too crowded. I'm a volunteer photographer with them. So maybe will heed your advice next year by asking some of the photographers of the temple. Will lookout out for these in future. Thanks a lot. ![]() |

Ok, I will take note of the WB and if it's off, I'll do some photoshop editing to it. I'll take this as an experience learnt. Thanks for your advices. ![]() |

These aren't too bad for a first try. Shoot more and you will get the hang of it after a while. Shooting in raw as suggested by some can help you nail the white balance later another alternative will be to get the expodisc. Its especially useful when you encounter mixed lighting for indoor shoots or concerts.

Anyone is free to share their pics on this thread.
To me, it's better as I can learn and compare from others photos. You can also start a thread of your own. ![]() |
