try a Nikon Series E 50mm lens. you should be able to pick one up from the B&S section for about 100 bucks. this was the standard lens for this body 20+ years ago. you can go wider (28 or 35) also available for series E, but the cost doubles.

Almost all Nikon or 3rd party F mount lens as long as it's not DX or G lens.
Even the pre AI can be used with a little conversion

Hi,
When you taking street photos, are you referring to taking scenery, or people? If you want to take people, are you comfortable walking close to them and take a photo? The target may not be comfortable with it. I would suggest you use a more tele lens for your street photography. For me, 28mm is never wide enough, and 80mm is never tele enough. If you want, you can get 28-200mm lens, but the F-stop will be small. So you will need high sensitivity film to get a rather fast shutter speed. For a start, I agree with rijac, use a 50mm lens, until you are used to all the manual work to be done, and then expand your range. As for the 35mm and 28mm lens, I have not use them before, but, I should say they are good, fast classic lens. Film requirements is not as critical as digital, and most of the time, you will not be pixel viewing. All you will be looking at is the overall picture composition in the final result. Have Fun! I still find shooting film is better and more challenging than using digital camera. Regards. |

i jus got a 2nd hand nikon Em SLR too. Despite lacking the full mechanical shutter speeds of a nikon FM2 or 3...i would say this nikon EM is a darn cute camera and pretty lightweight film slr to bring around. despite plastic build...it seems to feel pretty solid too.
it goes well with my voightlander ultron 40mm f2. everything is a small package in this combo. else sometimes i use my 35mm f2 AFD or 55mm f1.2 AI converted or 85mm f1.8 for tele |

Will be something like small alley street and still Life (If I use the correct words)I wouldn’t want to shot people in a close range, which will be not too nice to do it. Thanks for the advice. I used to shot films before but just a P&S film camera not film SLR. I shall take your advice using my current lens and later seek for other lens. For my current lens that I had own which film or what kind of film will be advisable to use for me street shots? I don't have any knowledge of films, please give me your suggest and advice. Thanks…!!

Your entire lenses are prime lens… what abt Zoom lens?? I’m aware prime lens is better compare to Zoom lens cos for the f-Stop… May be I should look into prime lens with a longer range. What abt film?? Any advice?? I saw there are so many films.. I was so confuse which one to choice for… Thanks for the advice and sharing your views.

For me, if i want to shoot black and white, I'll use TMax 400 or Tri X 400. For negatives, doesn't really matter, i using the commonly available Kodak Gold 200. For colour slides....that one depends, if you like saturated colours, get the fujifilm velvia 50 ![]()
