One is 300, the other is 1k. Can you afford the 18-200 and does it make more sense to you?

So 95mm difference costs around $700?
How about pic quality.

I don't think both lenses have very big picture quality differences. It all bows down to how much you think you need that full 18-200mm range.

do you plan to upgrade soon? or are you just buying this dSLR and basically use it with the same lens for almost forever?
(i have met people who bought a dSLR but has no plans of getting lenses and other accessories) If you plan to use this camera and lens setup forever, get the 18-200, more than enough! if you plan to upgrade soon, I suggest you get the kit lens which is cheaper. definitely you'll upgrade to f2.8 lenses later. |

Lens choice can be quite personal. No right or wrong.
I use the 18-105mm with a 70-300 My sister swear by her 18-200. So it is up to you to decide. Ultimately, it is you who would be optimising the lens potential. Cheers |

Had tried both all 3 lens.
18-200 though bit overated and for the price u pay..hmm.. But Its does cover from wide to tele... convenient and light weighted. & u can't be wrong for vr2.. delivers gd IQ. My suggestion is if you prefer more tele on ur d90, keep ur 18-105 and get a 70-300VR (FF lens) instead ,very sharp and fast lens and got u covered from 18 - 405 ( becos of the cropping factor on DX sensor) 18-105 is a gd kit lens to start off with.. keep it.. and save for prime lens at a later stage. Trust me.. u won't be able to resist at some point in time.. ![]() Just my $0.02 worth Cheers |

and u wont be able to resist cheap F2.8 lens too, like the tamron 17-50 =)
i do believe at some point in time, u would need some extra help by the lens on low light photography.(ok this sentence sounded funny)

Yeah at the end of the day it's what your style of shooting is. I travel quite a bit, so a versatile lens is more important to me than a F2.8 lens. Hopefully all these suggestions will help.

optical quality? built quality? weight? specific purposes? price? value for money? My advice to u is that if u are a newbie, don't rush into buying lenses. use the kit lens first. the 18-105 should be quite ok for u to explore most things. when u learn and experience more, u'll make better decisions in buying ur future lenses.

Thanks for all your valuable advice....
Pardon me...I'm a noob... My definition of better is better optical quality. Think i stick to my kit lens and get a better lens in future... |

IMHO the 18-105 has better image quality (sharpness, contrast, colour), while the 18-200 has a better range
do you need to go really long? if yes, you can consider the 70-300VR like somebody mentioned else if you want convenience, and are ok with the IQ of the 18-200, it is also a popular lens else, stick with your kit lens for now, and decide later |
