Not any time soon for the RSAF though the extremely troubled USAF KC-X procurement project has been underway for several years now without any significant headway.

It was mentioned in 2008 during a United States House Armed Services Subcommittee on Air and Land Forces hearing that the USAF KC-135 Stratotankers has a structural life of between 36,000 to 39,000 hours and with an average of 17,000 hours worth of flight time accumulated in each aircraft.

Theoretically, the USAF fleet of KC-135 Stratotankers could still well continue airborne operations well past the middle of this century which by then they would have been in service for slightly less than a hundred years and the RSAF might jolly well be the last operator of an active KC-135 squadron.

Most probably a B767/B777 or A330/A340 aerial refuelling tanker derivative IMHO.

Only the B767 and A330 will slug it out.. B777's tanker version is canceled already. A340 like dun hve that option.

It ain't necessary to purchase the aerial refuelling tankers directly from the aircraft manufacturer per se.

Aircraft modifications, overhaul and systems integration can be done in-house by Singapore Technologies Aerospace on lets say..., the soon to be retired SIA B772 which makes an excellent platform judging by their excellent service record and a relatively low flight cycles/flight hours on their airframes.

It was extremely fortunate that this particular incident happened at the terminal gate and not when the aircraft is in-flight, taking off or landing.

Hi HydroPoP, there is an existing plane spotting thread in the photo galleries sub-forum located here, why not post your photos there instead.

It was extremely interesting to note Captain Azharuddin Osman, Director of Operations for Malaysia Airlines, replying directly to aviation enthusiasts and plane spotters in a forum thread (ID No. 13377) over at MalaysianWings Forum.

Kudos to Malaysia Airlines for that.
