Check out Brit Philip Bloom's site. He did a review and a couple of video shots with the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH1.
Am thinking of getting it but kinda taken aback by the leaked US retail price. US$1499 with the lens kit. When it hits our shore, it may end up like S$2300-2500. At most, I will only consider it if it's S$1800 with lens kit. Oh well, see how it goes. Any IT show coming? |

Tempted by it mainly for the HD video function but from what I gather, its only 30mins of continous video. Never tried a video cam or even video recording before so I'm not sure how limiting that is.

I'm planning to get one when it hit our shore. USA, Australia and many parts of the world will launch the GH-1 sometime in June according to their respective panasonic website. I try checking the Singapore Panasonic website and there weren't any details for the launch. I made a call to Panasonic Singapore and a lady from the consumer section told me that there's some problem with the product and they might launch it later half of the year. Seriously I don't think she was interested in my enquiries and just told me GH-1 might launch between July and December. Cathay Photo said they were last told that GH-1 will launch in June.
As for the price US1500, I think it's pretty fix. The bulk of the money actually goes to the kit lens. If you are looking for a DSLR to record HD video with MANUAL CONTROL and 25P etc, the GH-1 seem to fit the bill at the moment as compared to the Canon 5DMkII and Nikon D90. Let's hope the Canon will take it further from here with manual control and 25P for the 5DMKII. As it is, the Canon 5DMkII video quality is still superior to the Panasonic. |

The only diff between GH1 and G1 is the HD video right? So if you're not taking video, buying the G1 will do?

according to panasonic, theres some new processing algorithm which eliminates noise better. also, the sensor is not exactly the same. and of course, that 14-140 lens.

The GH1 sensor is denser than the G1 at 14mp? Would that translate to better resolution?

I read somewhere the G1 and GH1 uses different sensors with GH1 being more superior.
But 2000 plus for GH1 is too steep of a price to pay. Maybe if buy the body only and get a cheaper lens, less than 1500, then I might consider. |

The lens is specially designed for video. If video not desired, can consider getting the g1 instead.

yeah..US$ 1500 is quite expensive (for me at least) ![]() and if it doesn't pair with 14-200 lens, auto focus is not supported during movie shooting.. |

oh..is it? I thought I was informed that the AF during movie shooting would be supported only if the 14-140 lens is used..
for e.g. D90 needs to set the AF prior to video recording..rite? it needs manual focus once you have pushed the video rec button.. |

Check this out... http://panasonic.jp/support/global/c...onnect/g1.html But best is still coupled with 14-140mm, since it's designed for video. ![]()

You guys should check out all the video samples shot by the GH1 at YouTube.
The GH1 does some video stuff that even the pro DSLRs from Nikon and Canon can't do. Yup, continuous AF, manual controls while recording and live view! Just that the video quality won't match the pro DSLRs due to chip size. Just that price is a bit pricey for now. |
