Planning to do some maintenance on my D200 (in fact, it's the cleaning of sensor) due to dusts spotted on the sensor. Anyone can share the basic method of cleaning a DSLR sensor?
Thanks a million!

What I do is set the mirror lockup, face the camera down and used the blower upwards. Solved the issues I had, not sure if it'll work for you. I don't think the sensor is meant for end-users to touch unless you're very sure of what you are doing.

if you do not have the skill to diy then send it to NSC, but pls make sure you double check before you leave the NSC.

I think most of us are gonna face the same prob as I do, sooner or later. Therefore this thread will be pretty useful if those who know can contribute a little bit..

![]() Every time you clean yourself you run the risk of damage your filter on top of the sensor. ![]() else follow what mention before by aspenx but make sure your batt is full power. For hard to remove dusts go back to NSC, there is no choice. I remember someone use a wrong sensor cleaning liquid on D3 body. ![]() BTW, I always carry a kit with me even if I travel and on location with a can of CO2 canister. HTH

try to find the right place to change lens and minimise the chance of dust entering...
this will ensure you need cleaning only like once in 6 mths or once in a year... if it is like that, then can consider sending to NSC for peace of mind as you can consider it as a once a year maintainence cost ![]()

I use the photographic solutions brand sensor swab and E2 or Eclipse with good results. Please do not use Pec pad to to clean the sensor although it is cheaper.

Thanks a million for those who had posted their experiences. Every point u guys mentioned are noted.
How much do NSC charge for servicing a camera? How long do they usually take?

I just called NSC and was quoted $120 (cleaning + alignment) and takes 7-10 working days.

i don't work for nikon and i have not been inside the repair area
so i don't know but my guess is that they will use the same method as the japan only cleaning kit method.
