Thread: Shooting in Botanic Gardens

    Default Shooting in Botanic Gardens

Hi, I was thinking of going down to the botanic gardens to shoot with a group of my friends.
I heard that you need permission to shoot there. Is it true?

    Anyone know anything about this?

Apparently so, although I find it very strange. Do check with the authorities and if they say so, then question why a public place for the enjoyment of tourists and citizens needs a permit.

The rules exist, but as long as you don't set strobes up, run wires all over the floor and cause an obstruction, I doubt if they will stop you. Observe basic rules of courtsy and consideration for other visitors.* But if you're shooting a XMM or one of Sion's octagenarians fetishes in lingerie or a skimpy bikini ... ah, that's different.

    * Sometimes, when I see rude and inconsiderate photographers, I shake my head in disbelief and feel that it's no wonder that more and more places are prohibiting photograpy. Say what we want, my take is that the prohibitions will spread unless a blanket edict specifically targetted at commercial and private property owners and property management comes down from the powers that be.

I think if its just a for fun casual outing, then if I were you, I won't bother and just go ahead and use. Ask too much sometimes you can't act blur later .

I just went with a group of 10 450D users to SBG. No permission was asked before hand. We just go and snapped away. No problem with it as it's a casual shoot.

The last time I went there with a bunch of photography classmates for
one of the outdoor lessons. We were using tripods and shooting objects
all over the place. It was OK, no one really stop us. No prior permission
    was needed.

They will have a hard time in answering double standards questions.
Just like way back when airport security stopped people from shooting the airport
but do not have answers when asked why some western tourists can shoot.
