Default Studio Lighting

I've done some reading up usually its recommended to prepare 3 light setup.
i would like to find out how does wattage affect the lights, also what size of softbox/umbrella to get.

Also pardon my ignorance, does every monobloc type of strobe come with IR Receiver for using IR trigger?

just get a kit set usually you are good to go.

for 400ws~500ws strobe, it is more than sufficient for portraiture, but too powerful for table top product shots

for portraiture two lights is good, three light will be better.

table top product shots, one light is good enough.

modern studio lighting mostly has built in sensor, it can be trigger by IR or other flash. Only those 20~30 years old studio light does not have it.

If you are doing portraiture. 2 x 500W and 1 x 750W should be sufficient.

how much budget you set aside for the above? 3k? 4k? 5k?

I'm trying to get a feel of what is considered a basic setup that is good investment for future expansion. The budget is around 2.5k
Have not considered any brands yet just trying to build a skeleton framework and then tune up or down depending on budget.

frankly speaking.. 180W with the supplied softbox not enough for full body shots... the max is 3/4 shots...

Will it help if we install bigger softbox and shoot at big aperture of F5.6?

bigger softbox helps to to provide wider coverage of light for full length shots. but it needs to be sufficiently large.
