Default Newbie question....

Hope to get some advice... i just did my first 2 rolls... everything when quite smoothly i think, although i had problems getting the films into the reel, got stuck a few times and dunno what to do since i can't see... anyway somehow manage to reel them in...

i follow every instruction deligently...from the timing to the temperature etc... until the last part...

1) weting agent, do u just pour them into the film and pour them out or rinse them off with water again ?? i got those soup kinda bubbles all over the reel, how to get rid of them?? in the end i just did a quick rinse with water again...

2) how to "unreel" the film out ?? i did all my research, did all my preparation, then until the last part, i was like err how to take the film out from the reel ... I am using the paterson reels... i finally just anyhow twist and turn (similar action to reel the film in but in reserve) the film out, but i can see the film being in a awkward twisted sharpe, hopefully its not scratch...

hope can get some advice on doing this... Thanks

Welcome The more you relax the better your film loading will be. Don't get scared, it's very simple.

Wetting agent (photoflo, I guess) - just put in a few drops with the final wash. Wash with water first and then empty the container. Put in few drops, add water and let the reels soak a bit. take them out and you are done Washing them again with water after wetting agent defeats the purpose. The soap kinda bubbles happen if you agitate too much and the foam sticks onto the film.

Unreeling - Twist the reels in the opposite direction to loading and they will come apart. Take off the reel and take your film out. If you loaded properly without film getting stuck weirdly in the reel, this won't be a problem.

Keep shooting and don't worry. Mistakes teach us a lot he he.

Thanks Will practice the reel part...
Ya, its a learning experience for me... luckily the first 2 rolls are mostly "test shots". Once i get more confident and experience then i will go on to the real shots...hehe

Try again 2 more rolls this weekend... hehe

if it is 120 film, you just put the reel laying side way, hold the end film and lift it up all the way at one go will do.

if it is 35mm film, you can do the same way, but you need to use the other hand to guild the film,
if you plan to open up the reel for 35mm film, you have to make sure and make sure the film are not stuck with the ball bearing when you open up the reel, or else you will damage your film when you unlock the reel.

1. From experience you add wetting agent to the bowl of water, do not add the wetting agent to an empty container and add water, it will cause alot of foam forming. Dip your reel gently in till the whole reel is submerged. You can turn the reel with it still submerged so bubbles dont form. Take out gently and un twist the reel and hang dry.

2. When reeling in till the last bit and you cut of the tail, after that continue the reeling action. This makes sure that the film and reeled all the way in so that the tail of the film is all the way inside and it will not block the film guiding area. In that way when you open the reel, the film wont be blocked.

If you forgot this action, you can use ur fingers to get the last part of the film out so that it wont block the film guiding part, then you twist open. It will work that way also.

try using one used roll with open light and get use to the feel & catch first. See how the film is rolled in, what happened when you turn the reel and how the film is move-in. If you see all those action, you will be able to visualise the movement during total darkness......
