when i use my D40 centre point focus on the line drawn on the newspaper but the focus seems to be slightly out. Is there any problem with my lens?

It seems sharp on the small jpg but I could be wrong.

Looks acceptable to me.
Not sure if you use AF. I read somewhere in my user manual (well I didn't leave it in the box) that AF does not perform well under certain conditions. One of it is little or no contrast between subject (which is your black line) and the background (the newspaper). |

Thanks for your replies.
yes i've used AF. i placed the line in the middle of my AF box, but i believed i did not do it with 45 deg angle. i just want to test whether it has the front/back focus issue but it seems to be slightly front focus to me. not sure whether it is ok, will try with the chart test from Simon_84. |
