so basically i want to start using DSLR. So its either 350d or 20d, though i'm more inclined towards 20d. is it possible to find a 2nd hand 20d anywhere? hope people would nt suggest me going for 1000d, 450d, 30d or 400d because its over my budget. around how much would a second hand 20d cost me? thanks guys.

I have a 20D with BG-E2 that I don't mind selling, it has served me well and deserves an owner who can make more use of it. Been sitting in my dry-cabi since I upgraded to 1 series and 5d2
PM me if interested

it's really a definitive camera, one that i say propel canon's lead back then ( albeit they losing it now) It's comming to 5 years old, of cse it lose out to the 40D, but it can still hold it's own against a 450D despite the 4 MB difference and if u read reviews of sony A700 for example, a camera that is 3-4 years older, they compare the AF speed of A700 to 20D..... It's cheap...400 dollars on BnS. Cos it's a older XX series, it's well built ( somehow the newer XX series a bit flimsy like tat) and can maybe last u 3-4 years? So why bother with a newer camera? |

2nd hand 20D body at Pensisular area is about $450. Some people have very strong opinion about 2nd hand 20D, but it is all up to you and your budget. A OEM battery is only $30-$40, and my current 20D battery is still good as new, it still can last 1000+ per charge.
Currently, I am a 20D and 350D user, to take a good picture start from the person behind the camera. Save some money for the Canon L lens or prime lens, it give you much better picture quality. I found that I no longer using other Sigma lens and other canon lens due to the picture quality issue. Below are some of the photo taken by using 20D posted at ClubSNAP: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=490122 http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=418044 http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=483653 http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=470030 http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=469147 Cheers.

If you can source for a good condition 2nd hand set at a good price, go for it. A sample pic I shot with this amazing camera (very light cropping done): ![]() |

I just got a 20D as well, can't comment too much on it as I am totally under-using it.
Anyway, while I was hunting for 20D, I thought battery would be a problem so I looked through ebay. Battery Link. I did not buy it in the end as my battery seems to be working pretty good. Just a suggestion. =) |

Agree with calebk
20D great cam at today's used prices. 99% of people don't need 10,12,15MP at all. In fact, many pros did great weddings in the old days with the 1D at 4MP. Only thing is you need to get used to the 1.8 inch LCD display, but again, in the days of film, LCD, what LCD? |

hahaha
actually the question is "Possible to get 2nd hand 20d nowadays?" Yes!! but seemingly lesser probability to get a good one since its an old model. Maybe Thread Starter can suggest your budget, or what's the alternative to 20D... 30D? I wish to sell a Film Camera! Its quite difficult! haha Last edited by pcie2008; 2nd May 2009 at 08:31 AM. |

used to use 20D, and it is oldies bt goodies !!!
i used to play around with 20D, 30D and 40D. there are things that you won't get in 20D like high fps, live view (which really comes handy sometimes) as compared to 40D. nevertheless, 20D is still a great camera, i think better than 30D in my opinion but can't match 40D in those things above. well, 40D i believe has better and faster auto focus (i called this 1D junior). regardless of megapixels (which i don't think you will need for now). 20D is seriously damn good ! there are 3rd party battery which cost 1/5 of the original one. so let say, original battery can last you 3 years, while 3rd party can last you 6 months plus. i think it is still worth it to get 3rd party battery in my opinion. the only thing you have to be careful is shutter count. older camera usually (usually and not confirmed) has high shutter count. up till now, i have no idea on how to check sc in 20D (unlike 40D which i can use some plug in). try to listen to the shutter mechanical, if it doesn't give you those weird and harsh sound, then it should be fine. well, shuterr is still shutter. there are camera which are still going strong even at 90K plus and the other way around. so, if you able to get the piece at good condition and price. just grab it and you won't regret it ! =) |
