You may want to also check and see whether you can get a used 580EX. With so many people upgrading to 580EX II I feel its worth it. Furthermore, there are always people who cotton handle their equipment and thus there is stuff out there that looks like new. -- Marios |

> 580EX - $720 JO, $749 CP, $760 MS, $690 TCW I did not realise that it used to sell for that much! Maybe flash guns depreciate really fast when a new model comes up! -- Marios |

Dude, with the MK II being around, if you don't need the "extra" features of the MK II then the MK I can easily be a great bargain. Calculate:
1. the selling price of the MK II 2. subtract $xyz dollars from the "MK II new" price for a used MK II 3. Now, subtract $xyz dollars from the price of the "used MK II" since now you are looking at the older model ![]() IF the MK I is sufficient for your needs (remember: the 580EX MK I, was Canon's top of the line flash gun not so long ago) then it would be hard to beat in terms of value for money. That's why I bought it. |

People stopped updating the 580EX price when 580EXII came out so the price that you saw there is the last update people put up. This just mean the price of 580EXII is about the same as 580EX when it first came out. The 580EXII price in the list is more updated.

Dude...Lets go to rough numbers: 580EX II new = 750 (say, pls entertain me )580EX II used = 750 - 150 (shall we say ? ) 580EX used = (750 - 150) - 150 Yeap.. that's about right for $450 +/- you get the last top of the line Canon flashgun which I feel most new or the average hobbyist photographers would hardly even get close to half utilise.. I have not seen many strobe photos in the gallery, multi-flash, not everyone would need the xyz sec recycling speed... My point is, even out of production as correctly you have stated, the 580EX MK I might be worth looking at since it is 4.5/7.5 (!, close to half the price) of the 580EX MK II, assuming of course one is willing to look into the second hand market. -- Marios p.s. I have no interest in neither selling or buying MK I or MK II and neither do I have any commercial interests in photography, just sharing my experiences after xyz years in this hobby. |
