Default Need some advices

Hi guys, new in this forum.

I'm going to purchase a Canon 50D but stuck between choices.
I was a SLR user (EOS 88) but never gone into DSLR. For digital, I've been using semi (Olympus Ultrazoom 2100) and compacts.

I'm a heavy handheld user, rarely used tripods for long. Lazy to bring tripods as well. Shoots landscapes to potraits, rarely macro.

Now I'm looking at the following "package" for start out..

1. 50D + Kit EF-S 18-55mm IS + EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
This choice is personally "safer" due to the IS system lenses. But I've to drag another extra lens along everywhere I go and switch lenses now and then (I tend to take the same landscape in 1 wide view and 1 close up/zoomed view).

2. 50D + Tamron AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD
This would be a more preferred choice for all-in-one lens, save $100++ and nothing extra to drag along or switch. The only worry holding me back is lack of stablising from lens. After using cameras with "anti shake" for so long, I'm worrying that I might have heavy shaky hands.

BTW, Tamron 18-270mm VC lens is out of my budget.

Please advise on which choice, would be a better choice.

Thought of it, but over budget. Otherwise I would had gone for 50D + AF 18-270mm Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) Macro, which will be around the same price for 50D Kit III.

50D + EF-S 18-200mm IS is about $2,500, how much is the 50D + Kit EF-S 18-55mm IS + EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS?

18-55 + 55-250.

since you are a previous SLR user, you *should* be used to the concept of switching lenses

Estimated cost for 50D + kit 1 (18-55mm) = $1880 + $360 (55-250mm) = $2240 (based on cheapest + cheapest price from CS canon pricelist)
I'll get better range, at the cost of bringing 1 more lens around.

In the past, never had budget to buy 2nd lens, so relied on the only "kit lens" all the way. Switching lenses isn't very troublesome. The troublesome part is bringing along the lenses, especially travelling overseas.

Of course, there's the "you can always put it in the camera bag since you're going to bring it along anyway" theory. I always tend to drop my camera bag (or whatever bag I'm carrying) when I'm shooting rofl..

Thanks for the constructive advices! Keep them coming in~!

Always think "Glass over bodies"

I suggest body + 18-55IS + 55-250IS + 50 1.8II + 430EXII flash for the most economical and comprehensive setup.

Do you really need the 50D ? If you are on a budget why not wait for 500D Kit 2 ?

Should be cheaper than your 50D Kit 1 + 55-250

Thanks for the replies!

Actually getting it as a birthday present for myself.. so can't wait too long. Just couple of days more..
I've somewhat more or less know what I want, though the advices here..

Maybe I'll go with Kit lens 18-55mm + 55-250mm and slowly pick up from there.
Might be alittle too impulsive to jump into Tamron (without stablising) since I have not held a SLR for damn long.
Shaky hands.. noobish behaviour.. etc..

Will be going to "feel" 50D, 450D, 500D and probably D90 (oops) before making the final choice.

Yeah, go with the feel...I've not touched a SLR for over 10years, just bought my 50D a month ago and now on my rediscovery road again...have fun!

Oh, and an early Happy Birthday!

I've gotten my 50D last night~!

Had a test at Courts Tampines (Ikea/Giant there) and it feels great!
Headed down to Tampines 1 Mall to purchase (ooops!) from Click!
It's a 1/2 boutique 1/2 gadget shop that sells ladies fashion and gadgets (like camera, laptop, etc..) that I've came across 2 days ago while shopping..

Canon 50D Kit 1 (18mm - 55mm IS) @ S$1875 w/GST (Cash) - Local set, local lens.
Freebies - Tokina UV filter, 3rd party 5500mAh battery, screen protector, 8GB lexor (or kingston) CF, Canon bag, member card (10% off on selected items)
Anyone wanna go see see look look can look for Ms Connie @ Click! Tampines 1 Mall #02-01.

Edit: Oh.. and for the 55- 250mm lens, I'll hold on my horse and take time to look around first because I was quoted abit higher there (there's a up in price last month?)
