Default Threadmount vs M-mount in M-cameras

Understand that LTM can be used on M-mount cameras, via an adaptor.

What are the downsides ?
Do we lose the RF focusing ability ?

Apologies if this que was asked before

Most LTM lenses have minimum focus distant of 1m or rather RF coupled to 1m. Most M lenses to 0.7m. All are nice to use-in fact I'm using more old LTM lenses than M lenses

Nope RF focusing is intact...
But you have to use the correct adapter for the intended lens or your frame line will be wrong.. ie 50mm lens to use adapter suitable for it (sorry if this was sound obvious)

Only downside I can think of the getting the adapter 6 bit coded

Get the Voigtlander ones they are pretty good..

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks, Gommy and Lowlights.

I was concerned that screwmount would not be able to couple to the RF body, and hence had to rely on distance scale on the lens instead.
This coupling thing is very intriguing.

Actually I prefer to use a LTM lens precisely because it's easier to send just the adaptor mount for coding instead of the m lens or the dismantled mount from a m mount lens. I can also buy adaptors that are already 6 bit coded.

Thankfully Leica was smart to think of backward compatibilty when they design the M camera.
Because of this, we have the opportunity to explore & enjoy the countless LTM lenses, not just Leica but many others, that are available today.

It's a coding that the Digital M uses to recognize the lens being used and the firmware will apply the correct formula to remove vignette (more for wide angle lenses)

The one that looks "black and white" that the 6 bit code
