Hi all,
Just a quick question: has anyone sent in their camera for re-mapping of their sensor for hot pixels at Canon Service Centre? If so, how much is the cost and expected duration for such service? (assuming the camera is already out of warranty) Thanks in advance! |

$60. They took 2 days to fix my 5D which had 50 or so hot pixels on high ISO and long (above 1s) exposure shots. During collection, enter the Canon Professional Service room to check before leaving the place – It still had 5 hot pixels when I collected but they managed to remove them within an hour during lunch.

I sent my 40D for mapping last month, it took around 3 days. I checked the sensor with lens cap on at the counter before taking home, discovered there are still a few spots on the sensor. I showed it to the officer, he told me it's impossible to remove all the hotpixel. At the end i couldn't do anything and bring the camera back. ![]() |

Then he shouldn't have charged you. Cuz it happened to my 5D too – They couldn't remove 1 hot pixel from the many... in the end, the service was FOC.

Will be sending in the cam to CSC later to resolve this problem. Btw what was your settings used to check when you collected your 5D from CPS? |

Errm, can't really remember but I tried with caps for 30s exposure at ISO100, 400 and 1000... I didn't bother to try higher cuz I never see myself shooting long exposures at that high ISO - actually, I rarely shoot long exposure to begin. It's just that before sending to CSC, I can see many hot pixels even at 1s at ISO100 appearing at shadows area.

mind posting a picture to take a look?
Correct me if i'm wrong.somehow for lcd product and even camera sensors,it seems impossible to have zero hot pixels.and even for new items.

Nop. My 5DMII is free from it... well as of now. But it's quite obvious actually, put lens cap on, shoot at 30s exposure and try with ISO100 and 1600 (usually higher more apparent/sensitive) and if you have hot pixels, instead of seeing just black screen, you'll find either red, green or blue spots. Hard to miss unless is right at the edge of frame perhaps...
Also, I heard dead pixels are white whereas hot are either red, green or blue. |
