I would say 18-200mm is better than the kit lens given the fact that it has much longer range, as light as kit lens. Only difference is that it doesn't come with IS.
Note that there are 2 versions of Tamron 18-200mm. One is "Made in Japan" while the other is "Assembled in China". It can be identified by looking at the lens body. I bought the "Made in Japan" copy from AP Funan for my friend. Do check out there if there's still remaining copies of it as the other copy I saw was "Assembled in China". Quality wise, the copy I bought was relatively sharp throughout the range.
I didn't bother to try 18-270mm as the price simply turns me off. There isn't any particular shop that carries more Tamron lenses than its competitors though.

Guys guys, can get some feedbacks, am thinking of getting a backpack. Have been trying to decide between the Lowepro rover aw II vs Kata Dr467 (if still can find this).
Prefer such shapes that's looks like a normal backpack, didn't really like those odd shapes kind... Hmm any other suggestions??
Novjoe, shall contribute to e bbb notion here later ;P
i should come here less often... The BBB virus is very strong! :P
Something like the Tamrac 3375
Does anyone know of any other side-loading backpacks?
The Kata looks really nice, but Lowepro is just too common here. Almost all photogs have Lowepro bags.
