yup.. canon warranty is not transferable.. best is to get a unregistered warranty if getting 2nd hand.

Canon Singapore is not asking people who send their camera/lenses in for repair to show ID card. So, why is the transfer of warranty necessary? If I send the camera in for repair and the serial no. is already registered in Canon's database, there is not even the need to show warranty card or receipt. Owners can always ask someone else to help send in the camera/lenses to CSC so there is no way for Canon to check who is the owner nor is there any reason why Canon want to do so...

Canon equipment's ownership/warranty is transferable in Hong Kong. Kind of double standards within the Canon organization but HK people who buy camera body usually pays less than us in Singapore but at the same time enjoys 2 year warranty (for non professional body) compare to our 1 year warranty in Singapore.

I think the Local Canon Warranty can actually be transferred. I actually sent in my 1000d bought from my friend to CSC for calibration and checks due to slow focusing. The guy at the counter actually ask me whether I need to get it transferred to my name, while the main thing is as long as they are able to service it for me. Who name is it doesn't matter much.

Even if the lens has changed hands 100 times, the 101th
owner of the equipment can still bring his/ her equipment down to CSC and claim the warranty as long as he/ she can produce the equipment's original warranty cars and/ or product recipt which captures: (a) the serial number (b) date of purchase for the 12-month period to be established if your contact details are different than the ones that Canon has on their database, then they will simply update it. =) |

Oh that's very convenient. So I just pass the buyer receipt & that's all right? I can 'mask' my address for the extended warranty?

so you are the seller worrying about disclosing your address to the buyer. I am not sure what is your concern.
When I sold my 40D and lens early this year, several buyers came to my house to check on the equipment. I have nothing to hide and if they need my help in future warranty claims, I am more than happy to help out. |

Hmm maybe he/she is referring to the personal info reflected on the extended warranty letter given by Canon?

You shd probably mask your address. As I think it's not necessary to disclose personal info.

when will the offer for Extended warranty be taken off?
eg, is it on the 11th month? or what if on my 12th month of usage, I think the camera is getting cranky, can I still buy the extended warranty from Canon ? ------------ Enjoy a total peace of mind with additional 2 years Canon warranty for your digital cameras and camcorders. Coverage : Additional 24 months Price : S$180 including of GST ------------ |

register online and get 3 month more warranty?
most of the equipment is reco by warranty card. the name who register the item dun really matter. if it does, we can stop buying that equipment unless it very unique... |

No, they only cover repairs and calibrations.
