Not sure that you can take 720p video at 20fps with the 500D coz it only has 1080p at 20 fps, 720p at 30 fps and 640x480 at 30 fps. Unless you mean to take 1080p video at 20fps then downrez to 720p at 20fps or take 720p at 30fps then reduce 30fps to 20fps, in which case I hope some new 500D owners will go through the trouble to do the conversion to test.

Sorry for this noobs question. Anyone has problem viewing your video in with ZoomBrowser? I have no problem view the video from my IXUS850 but the video from 500D (.MOV) cannot be played. I can only use window media player to view now. What software do u used for viewing video from 500D.

i not sure abt the owner of this new 500D but i have make a trip down to Vivo canon showroom to shoot a section of video using my own SD card. i manage to capture both 1080p and 720p. As seen on my lappy LCDs, the 720p looks much more better while the 1080p motion looks jerky. it looks the same on the camera LCD when doing the recording to. i will try to view it on my 37" HD ready Tv in awhile, but anyone can advice me how can i transfer the video on the TV itself, if i plu in the VGA cable will the effect be the same? or i burn it as a DVD video and play the disc with the player?

manage to burn a DVD out from the video file i capture this afternoon. wow, is very sharp and clear on my HD ready lcd.

for 720P video it is marvellous, 1080P is definately cannot make it. it looks jerky and motion is not as smooth as the 720P.

overall sharpness is far more better than my non-HD pana video cam recorder and the focusing is not good, when zooming in, we need to do manual focus, auto focusing is not good on the 500d too.

yeah i was wondering why it wasn't too.. but anyways i went back to get it. there were really a lot of people in the shop at that time so i guess he misplaced it while getting the camera ready for me. the price was reasonable. body + 24-105mm $2850, my dad was paying and he dint want to bargain cuz the service was so good

i am a beginner and just got my 500d at harvey at $1469, same price as on canon website.

body + kit 18-55
1 x canon bag
2 x kingston SD cards (Class 4)
1 x extra compatible batt (not canon original batt)
2 x lens UV filter (got an extra one free for my 55 - 200mm)
1 x tripod
1 x sd card reader
1 x screen protector
4 years extended warranty at $180
(thinking that longer warranty serve useful in the future if i were to sell my cam)

plus point is i can pay by interest free installments by credit card at harvey

may i ask what are the setbacks of a class 4 sd card on the camera. not sure what is a class 4 card. i read about getting a higher speed sd card for faster image process. true?

Default Re: 500D Users Thread

you should just google for this sorta thing... its way faster than waiting for a reponse

haha i'm also a noob so i might be wrong,

class 4 means write rate of 4 mb/s(min)
class 6 means write rate of 6mb/s(min)

canon recommends class 6 minimum for 500d optimal video recording.
personally i can't tell the difference when the guy at the shop showed me..

cheers!
