Default 16-35mm or 17-40mm

I recently bought 50D with 18-200mm kit and 50mm f1.4, which I mainly used to shoot indoors, either @ gatherings, impromptu shots, etc. I like the range that 18-200mm offers but I find it heavy and would like to get another lens for indoor (and maybe some outdoor) shoot.

I just want to hear some opinions/comments/suggestions on the two choices. Thanks.

(Just for info before the debate on why the L lens, I'm thinking of going FF in a year or two so now starting on L lens.)

2.8 will greatly benefit indoors

I rarely chanced upon using f/2.8 for UWA... for myself la. I use my 17-40 primarily, majority, for group shots or landscape/interior/exterior shots where I have to stop down and more often than not, it's above f/4. Barrel distortion isn't any better on 16-35 and I am happy with the excellent sharpness the 17-40 produce so..... yeah. And half the price. On the topic of sharpness, centre or corners, do note that 1.6x cameras can only grab so much details... I persoanlly don't see much diff on 16-35, 17-40 and 10-22 on my previous 40D.

Also, with today's DSLR, when I need more light, I simply pump my ISO... and noise? LOL, well, as much as we always want clean pictures, it's always good to know what/where (and size) your photos will be used. I will ask my client this before every shoot and this will give me a better idea of the limitations to bare in mind for photo produced. On a 4R or your typical online gallery, 1600 is nothing.

17-55. EFS, but holds its value well for when you go FF.

Have to see your budget lor.. got money get the 16-35.. extra 1mm and f2.8. Can stop down to f4 anytime.

No money get the 17-40.. sharp and good. The money saved can be used to get an external flash or another lens.

18mm & 16mm is not so much of a diff unless on FF. 10-22 (16-35 on FF) is great for indoor & landscape shots.

you find the 18-200 heavy? wait till you try something between 780g to 1.8kg lens.. not including a FF body..
