I am thinking of doing the above... as I find 12-60 pretty heavy especially when I am travelling... seeking opinions on the above action... do you guys find it feasible??...
thanks! |

If the 12-60 is heavy, is the sum of the 14-54 and 9-18mm any lighter? Granted, you'll have a lot more on the wide end, but you'll also have to swap lenses more often. I think for travel, it's better to decide on one primary lens, and maybe a secondary lens. Where possible, don't swap lenses at all if you want a casual vacation. I find swapping lenses to be distracting in that I'll think about whether I should mount xxx lens instead of how do I take that shot...

I know exactly what u mean. After I got the 14-54 mark 2, I stopped using the 12-60 as my travel and standard lens. I really did enjoy the reduced bulk and heft of the 14-54 while retaining its weatherproofing abilities. Only thing no SWD. The 12-13 mm range does not appeal that much to me and I could afford not to have it. Then only problem with the 14-54 is that it is not as sharp as the 12-60. This is based on impression and not on any specific tests.
However, I have since gotten the 14-54 mark 2, and I find that it is sharper than the old 14-54 mark 1. Again this is my impression. Knowing what I know now, I think that you would be OK to go get the 14-54 mark 2 - which is probably sharper, AND with SWD and sell the 12-60. I would hold off on the 9-18 and get it later if I really find there is a need to get that wider angle. In my travels, I think the 14-54 would be sufficient. But if u are out trying to shoot wildlife or something from a distance, then, u might need the 12-60 (if not too far away), or the 50-200 or even the 70-300 if light is not a problem.

![]() Personally I don't find the 9-18 an appealing lens, it has too much distortion and the overall image quality is not really good (sharpness, detail and colour). This is just my opinion, I know there are many people out there who love the lens. I think the 7-14 is a better alternative, but then, it is also more expensive. Anyway, I don't understand how somebody can go from the 12-60, a pro lens to a budget lens. It is something which I would never do because I know I'd be disappointed.

Haha...thanks for letting me know. I assumed that all blue chrome rings = SWD. U are right, there are only 3 SWD : 12-60, 50-200 and 14-35. U are right about the noise tho..they 14-54 are way quieter than the 12-60.

thanks all for ur opinions...
i just gotten myself a 9-18... as the 7-14 is way out of my budget... perhaps i should juz keep my 12-60... since they share the same thread size.... can inter change the cpl... ....as for weight wise... think i might juz get a smaller body... E520 or E620 for my travels... btw does it feel unbalance if a 12-60 is mounted on a smaller body??... i used to use a 14-54 on a E510... balance is juz fine... |

From experience i think weather proof is a little more important since u go travel. Else need to cover here and there and spoil the mood to shot. But now is summer time so probably no need to worry about this. Enjoy ![]() |

i was on a shop earlier, almost ready to buy 12-60mm for my E-520 until the sales guy told me that I will not benefit on the lens' SWD since I am using only E-520. According to the sales guy, the SWD feature will work only on higher end models like E30 and E3. How true is this? Thanks in advance. @ TS, sorry for butting in ![]()

on the E-520,it will be quite fast, but to utilise the full potential, you need a body like E-30 and E-3,as far as I understand that is

![]() However I think why i am using 12-60 on E510 is due to the image quality and future upgrade possibility. someday i might change to e3 or e30, but not now yet ![]() |

thanks spidey and burrbrown for the inputs. the thought of future body upgrade is just around the corner too
i'm just thinking of getting a pretty good lens first (12-60mm that is) before I upgrade the body. the other shop offered me an E3 and its so tempting even if I have my eyes on E-30 ![]()

Well, don't get too carried away with camera bodies - unlike days of yore, camera bodies are now classified as "consumer electronics" in my book.
Which means manufacturers will go out of their way to make 'em obsolete every couple of years to keep the gear-lust going. |

Of course slapping the large 12-60 on a tiny micro 4/3 body is akin to slapping on my FL-50 on my LX-3. As I see it now, the SWD lens range will be the primary product differential between 4/3 and micro 4/3. |
