i've seen plenty of smart designs by photographers around the world, trying to create a diffuser that doesn't break the piggy bank. but which material actually works the best, and is yet subtle enough to be brought to events and such? what have you guys tried so far and found that it works best for you? i'm aiming to create something that doubles up as both a diffuser and omnibounce. will be dropping by at art friend to see if i can get any suitable materials. please comment!

I tried Tissue those 2 plys 1, but am going to try those hard board which could be found at popular and cutting it out, DIY-ing a holder so as to attach on to the pop-up flash.

go buy a bottle of No Frills apple juice from cold storage (i think). after drinking, wash & cut the bottle open and you'll have nice white translucent to DIY with. tends to curl up, but worth a try!

i bought an a4 white translucent folder from popular and cut it out to fold into a box shape. seems that it diffused too much, lost too much power even after +2 FP comp. =/

if it's a pop-up diffuser, i don't see the need for a DIY. It's cheap. costs $10-$12 max. and it's effective then comes in 3 colors.
Will cost you more when buying the materials for DIY and the troubles of making one plus the hassle of thinking wether it will work or not. Some things are worth to be DIY like the expensive OEM ones., while some are damn cheap that it makes no sense to DIY at all.

DIY-ing 1 is totally free ( in $ terms, not effort wise ) if u use things like maggi mee bowl or fruit juice bottles. it can give you an effect that's almost similar to the $10 diffuser, so what for spend on it? anyway u're referring to the one in the mass sales column if i'm not wrong.

okie.. condoms.. wrap it around the flash.. will give you a warm light..provide you get the skin tone ones and not the strawberry kind. Use the colored ones for special effects.
A sock will work too.. ![]() |

To add on, if you don't mind people wondering why you have a sock/whatever you choose to use over your camera, then go ahead. DIY is fun

I still prefer the "commercial available" option... it is cheap & more durable. And less likely to make a laugh...

huh condom? what condom you mean?? those condoms that we use during............? if tat is really the case bro, are you really sure?? hold on the pop up flash, use your thumb to block the lighting, fire a flash off, ask your self, do it hurts? the temperature from the flash will shoot up so high that will melt off the condom materials causing a remains on the pop up flash too....
