Hi guys and gals,
Does anyone have one of these? Mine is quite soft, and even with the lens stopped down can never get a sharp image. This is a far cry from what I've seen others achieve with similar TCs, so i'm suspecting mine might be a faulty copy. Does anyone else have one that I can use to compare?

Hi there... i have the same experience with you (soft/ fogging even in the viewfinder), i tried it with many copies of them with a900 and two primes sony (50 f/2.8 macro and 85 f/1.4) in two different store in singapore...yours is not a fault copy, sorry to say but i think every kenko 2x pro 300 for alpha mount is a fault design... well i hope you still can return the tc to get a replacement or get your cash back, good luck bro

My 80-200/2.8 HS G on a Kenko Pro 300DX produces bad images as well. Soft edges, and purple fringing. To the point that the images are quite unsuitable for use.

Original or 3rd party, 1.4x TC will AF focusing speed much faster compare to 2.0x TC. Original or 3rd party, 1.4x TC will be sharper compare to 2.0x TC. No, not all white lenses. Only prime lenses like Minolta (HS version) 200mm/300mm/400mm/600mm is matched to Minolta version II APO TC and also Minolta/Sony (D) version TC while non-HS version is matched to Minolta version I APO TC. For SSM lenses, 70-200mm/300mm is matched to Minolta/Sony (D) version TC. MF only if Minolta/Sony (D) version TC is used on 70-400mm lens. AF is still possible if Kenko 1.4x TC (no IC rom chip-internal type) is used on 70-400mm lens. Note that SSM lens doesn't work (Cannot AF) with 5 pins TCs (Original or 3rd party). Regarding Kenko 8 pin TC, it doesn't AF well with SSM lens. The lens will have micro-hunts back and to for some time before it finds focus - it does eventually find correct focus but it does by a process of diminishing iterations until it eventually settles. This occurs even in perfect light and it seems to do about a few iterations. It's basically NOT really useable in AF mode. 80-200mm HS, 70-300mm SSM: the rear element of the lens will clash with Minolta/Sony original teleconverter, i.e. cannot physical mount. Match TC will be Kenko 300Pro (white or black) for 80-200mm HS lens. If I have this combination, prefer white to black TC as colour also matched. 80-200mm HS with 2x TC: birdings shoots, may you find AF focusing speed is quite slow if not enough light. |
