M43 will take on the 20% smaller I.S. mechanism plus the entire sensor-cum-SSWF system and a few other little bits and pieces.
Ohhh... some hint

The E-620’s articulating LCD setup will make its way into M43 but whether you will see this in the first camera due mid-year is anyone’s guess but it will definitely appear in December.
Hmmm

Tasty... didn't know about the Cosina adapters previously.

Voigtlander, Zeiss here we come.

If they get the chrome/black colour scheme right (and of course pending a screw mount adapter), I have a Summitar and an Elmarit that would feel right at home...

"Clearly the E-3, E-30 including the forthcoming E-4 will signal the end of an era for Olympus."
this mean Olympus no longer producing DSLR? concentrating on M43?

I dont think they will abandon dslr after trying so hard to win over people. It is more like a 2-prong attack for marketshare.

i think the whole message of that quote doesnt mean quitting dslrs rather combining FT and mFT and moving away from the "traditiional" DSLR architecture like the rest of the market is using

Quote:
The benefit of universalising a common design for M43 and Four-Thirds use is a very smart one. What many might not realise is that M43 is leading the way for the entire Four-Thirds to gravitate towards smaller but no less functional DSLR solutions. Clearly the E-3, E-30 including the forthcoming E-4 will signal the end of an era for Olympus. After that, expect to see the company moving very clearly away from the rest in very much the same way as how they used the OM System during the 70s and 80s.

The first apparent result of this joint development effort for M43 and Four-Thirds is the E-620. Using the 400-series as the form factor, Olympus surgically grafted the in-camera Image Stabilisation mechanism – meant for M43 – into the E-620. Four-Thirds contributed the TruePic III+, the I/O architecture, wireless flash and many more. M43 will take on the 20% smaller I.S. mechanism plus the entire sensor-cum-SSWF system and a few other little bits and pieces. You will see all of these by mid June this year. The E-620’s articulating LCD setup will make its way into M43 but whether you will see this in the first camera due mid-year is anyone’s guess but it will definitely appear in December.

As stated,it isn't official, until someone from Olympus board of directors or something like that comes out and really say "I am sorry to dissapoint you all but we won't be continuing with the four third system anymore, however we will be concentrating on the micro four thirds", i believe that four thirds will not be abadoned

During a recent Olympus/CS organized event, I remember that the Olympus representative indicated something like "the R&D that goes into m4/3 will also benefit the 4/3 system". Does this means that the 4/3 will not be abandoned? I really hope so as I don't think the m4/3 is suitable for me (besides for travel purposes/spare camera).

Not sure, but as I've said,i highly doubt that the four thirds will be discontinued but what napalmdog makes sense,i think it was addressed that Olympus will not abandon four thirds during the outing

maybe they know they can't win canon and nikon? so concentrate on M43. Like the fujifilm.... no longer producing DSLR, concentrating on their compact

If Canon/Nikon were to join in with the M43 stuff, won't it be the same?

Olympus 4/3s will continue on...

The E-620 wouldn't be what it is without micro Four-Thirds. They specifically mentioned the I.S. and the SSWF being smaller because of micro Four-Thirds and that's how they got so much into the E-620.

In the OM-series days, they started up the IS-series and the 35mm world gasped and said "that's just wrong" but now, we're seeing all these SLR-like point-and-shoot cameras that look and work like the IS-series.

What if Olympus come out with something new? As long as they don't abandon the lenses for which they worked so hard to differentiate with the digital only label and they still have great image quality, I'll be okay. I think Olympus users will also be.
