Default AFD 35mm f2

Anyone use this lens and have opinion about this lens?
For about the same price, I could choose between Nikkor AFD 35mm f2 or AFD 28mm f2.8. I prefer a bigger aperture than a wider angle.

i would prefer the wider angle then the bigger aperature. f2 and f2.8 not much different i think.... But 35mm and 28 mm quite different....

but thats just my preference.

Get a 50mm f1.8/f1.4?

Nikkor 50mm f1.4 is now made in China, I would have bought it if it is made in Japan.

I think the F80 with the 28-80 G lens is a very good combination. Both made in Thailand !

FYI, f2 and f2.8 is one big stop difference! Much more than between 1.8 and 1.4!

Right! Imagine f2 plus ISO400, shooting low light and hand held.....

Astin, with your preference of shooting, I think 35mm f/2 is more for you. You don't shoot landscape or architecture much right?

And don't be bothered with the 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 being made in China, they still use japanese parts? Like old heaven Comrade Deng said, "Be it a China lense or Japanese lense, a lense that can capture good pictures is a good lense."

From what I gather:
1. the 35mm has very low distortion.
2. It is highly ranked against the 28mm
3. it would be equivalent to a 50mm when you use DSLR

Here are some links that you may find useful in your consideration:

Oops, after reading the links, I realised that the internal oil leaking problems is bigger than I thought originally. It is like a wide spread design problem with this lens that were made before Sep 2002. Now I got to think again before BUY BUY BUY.

I got a shock too when I read the review(ssss) before I bought my 35mm f/2, but then I ignore it and got one, used it for quite some time, and nothing of that sort have ever happened. Probably all new 35mm now is the new batch?

Astin, went to CP and tested the lens with F80 and the focus speed was not that fast but the close focus range is good. Given a choice I will go for the 50mm f1.4.

Aiyak, how come CP always let people play with their lens one? After people play, I dont want to buy that one lens. I want a new one, virgin one.....

Astin, I agree with pcman. Go for the 50/1.4. Fast and sharp lens.

See my gallery for samples taken with this lens: http://sfhuang.clubsnap.org/gallery/album03

Actually I have analysed my shots so far, (using some engineering analytical skill), I have shot about 5k+ photos using 24-85mm zoom, I found most times I shot full body at around 35mm focal length. I believe a prime 35mm have better colour control and higher contrast than a zoom.

Yes, the primes have their advantages!

Your "virgin" lense is also once upon a time "tested and abused" by another aficionado. Even if the box is so called taken from the storeroom
