Default Cutting of IR Filter (Hoya and Cokin)

I intend to mod my D70s. I read from a number of previous threads that Hoya R72 is glass and 2mm thick ,while Cokin is plastic sheet, so is easier to cut.

Any idea to advise by placing these 2 filters in front of the sensor and screw back to the frame, does this thickess affect the mounting & clarity of images? Err, if I hope to get the goldie effect of yellow tree leaves after pp, which grade/type of Hoya and Cokin filter should I go for?
