Hello all,
Would like to seek your advice if the Carl Zeiss len of 16-35mm f2.8 is a situable len for AD wedding events ? I have Zeiss 24-70mm and G len 70-200, thinking of getting Zeiss 135mm f1.8 for AD wedding but think carefully since i have that range in G len 70-200mm so must well use 16-35mm as a AD wedding len and landscape. Please kindly advice if 16-35mm is a len that can be used in AD wedding event etc? Thank you. |

Good lens if you are a wide shooter. It really depends on the style of shooting really.

White I can't comment using the lens, I have used the range before. The range is really nice to cover table shoot with limited space and of course to get wide angle on the room. 24-70 would do most of the work though, you'd only get additional range from 16-24mm which the cheaper 17-35mm Minolta (at 1/5 price) can do.

Correct, I was mentioning on the context of A900 Full Frame. On A700, you can use 11-18 but this lens is really soft at corners and lower aperture f4.5 onwards.
You can then consider primes also if using APS-C e.g. 20mm or 24mm which quite wide also.

I will recommend CZ24-70 as the main lens even if use on crop sensor for it's flexibility to zoom in and out at during moments. During group shot, you can alway switch to 16-35 if required.
I do not own a 16-35, but i will switch to my WA lens at specific moments for group shots during day or night which usually happen at the end of a session. 24-70 will be able to cover small groups shots with about 8 to 10 people in it. |

Hi all,
Thank you for your advice. Maybe i should let you know my current len.. I have 2 bodies.. A700 and A900 My initial intend was to use A900 with 24-70mm while getting a 135mm f2.8 on A700 instead of using the G len 70-200 which will be heavier. However after thinking for sometimes, i was thinking why should i get a prime len of 135mm f2.8 for AD wedding shoot? I think with a 16-35mm f2.8 at least it allows me to cover the wedding shoot. So i thinking what are the len people use during wedding shoot and if 16-35mm f2.8 can be used during AD wedding shoot. I intend to use these: A900 with 16-35mm f2.8 as main len A700 with 24-70 f2.8 which will ended up as 38mm to 112mm focal length on a APS-C dslr. Hope this will be good enough for wedding shoot. Thanks again for your advice. |

If using 2 body, i would use A900+85 or 135CZ. A700 + 16-35. A900 for candid and A700 for group photo shoot. The big aperture allow me to shoot without flash.

I think Arther wanna make use of the extra crop factor for tele because it makes tele longer. Standard zoom for FF so it makes it wider.

Hi,
Just to add, if you are shooting AD, do you shoot exclusive available light? or do you use flash? that also play a role in selecting your gear. As comparison, I shoot all my work in available light, so f1.4 lenses are a lot more useful than slower f2.8. Normally, would shoot with 35mm f1.4, 85mm f1.4 and 135 f1.8 for low light work. Under good lighting, usually 24-70 and 70-200 is fine shooting wide open. I would bring a 12-24 for a few shots of the interior and 16mm f2.8 for some occasional shots. Normally 24mm on 24-70 is wide enough for most application. Of course, would be nice to have 16-35 f2.8 if it proven to be a sharp and reliable lens... but don't bring a new lens to a wedding shoot... matter of fact, don't bring anything that you haven't properly tested. Hope it helps. Last but not least, show us some pics when you took some so we can wow over it... good luck.. Regards, Hart Last edited by Agetan; 18th April 2009 at 12:54 PM. |

Hi all,
It is very nice for all the Alpha fans for the great advice. I think i am too lazy to get my G len 70-200mm for AD as it is slightly heavier. Hence i thought a combination of A900 with 16-35mm CZ and A700 with 24-70mm CZ will help me in the whole AD wedding shoot. Thanks again. |

I used one body for shoot and one body as back up... if you want just one lens, probably just use the 24-70 and shoot everything on that lens. You should be able to do it but of course not optimum. Regards, Hart |
